I don't understand the dislike for Battle Academy. I think it's one of the best war games made since 2000.
But then I don't understand some of the love for some war games that have failed to get even the fans talking about them past the year they were released in most cases.

I like BA. However it doesn't have the detail and depth and realism I'm after in a Steel Panthers remake.

Depth, detail and realism. The rallying cry normally for bloated unwieldy and excessive
ASL would never have made it on opening day as it exists today. The fame came from Squad Leader a game you could play after reading 7 pages of rules where the pages were mainly images and examples and not 3 column rules text
But we war gamers have a disease I think, something about always wanting more until we ruin a good game with "detail and realism"
Not that I should talk. You should see the cake I just baked. I think if I was to sell it, I'd need to warn of the overload level of calories and the excessive level if richness. I'd hesitate to serve it to a senior, and would fear just walking past a diabetic person.

Mrs. Wargamer,
I struggle with that very thing. By that I mean dreaming of a very complex grognard type game. But then time and family and life of course don't make that a reality. Soon I can't cope with the complexity, but yet still crave the historical realism. Oh well....

There is an old song that had very wise words.
"Sometimes we don't get what we want, but, we get what we need" (or words to that effect ).

Craving that love of fans, they beat all the other Artist who had hoped to be the first to make history.

The Stones really should give it up already. They looked and sounded pitiful.

Agree, but it looks like they are going to play till they die.
On topic. I'm looking forward to the planned 2by3 game

Hurray for squares this time around. I love squares and I really like the Battle Academy engine. That screen shot was pretty detailed compared to the Steel Panthers I been playin. Now if only they turned them just a little to a more isometric view it would be perfect. [&o]

Had to post this Uncontrollable urge here.
Oh by the way, I don't hate the Stones or anything, just think this song said it better.
Crosby Stills and Nash
Love the one you're with (or in game terms, if you can't have the game you want, love the game you got ).

To avoid any confusion:
- It's using hexes.
- The engine is much more advanced compared to STUB (BA/BA2/P&S/Hell/Jidai), it just uses some of the same paradigms internally.
I appreciate that in the absence of real information people will create some, but... [;)]
Cheers

It would need to be if it is intended to match or exceed the current SPWAW engine.
I'm so looking forward to it. I hope it's grand.
RE: @ Matrix: Gary Grigsby's Tactical Wargame...any news?
What I most want out of a Steel Panthers successor is something that the Combat Mission games (which I love for their own merits) won't give me - a randomized campaign generator. The only reason I played the Steel Panthers series for so long is because of that one single feature. I still play SPMBT because of it. I just want to play it on an engine/UI designed after I hit puberty.
RE: @ Matrix: Gary Grigsby's Tactical Wargame...any news?
I am sorry for thinking it might use squares. I do prefer hexes anyway! Thank you for clearing that up Pip! [:)]

All I require is it be as fun as Steel Panthers and if it was able to give me multiplayer as easily as Battle Academy that would be awesome. I've never enjoyed multiplayer more than when playing BA.

RE: @ Matrix: Gary Grigsby's Tactical Wargame...any news?
Just give us a SP:WaW that works on new computers without losing anything it has now.
Hexes! (Yay!)
No isometric... top down graphics like what we already have is best.
Increased OOB slots.
More realistic scale for buildings, roads, and units.
25m hexes or even 10m.
Capability for larger maps.
Double, quadruple or more the current number of units in a battle.
PBEM/online/hotseat/solitaire are required.
Random battles/campaigns a must.
C&C is a definite MUST... if you don't include this it will make me sick.
The armor penetration system must not be dumbed-down.
What I'm trying to say is there's nothing that needs to be deleted, only fixed and increased.
Don't make it too graphics/animation intensive, it shouldn't require a big graphics card.
