USS Ranger in 1941

As recent as 1941 the Ranger was deployed with biplanes in the Atlantic.
While not included in WITP, it did patrol as close as Cape Town as a convoy escort.

Nice! I collect "yellow wing" aircraft models - mainly USN. Those biplanes are "yellow wings", I should think.

Inquiring minds wanna know. Why the yellow wings? There had to be a reason, good or bad [&:]

Easier to locate if they ditched. Even the planes carried by the Akron and Macon had the same color scheme.

Color bands around the naval planes would designate the squadron, and before Pearl, all naval pilots took turns flying in all other types aboard carriers.(Fighter pilots also flew DB's, etc.)

BTW, the Northrop plane I shared started life as a torpedo bomber,(B "T"), but this later model has the radio mast moved forward of the greenhouse and dive flaps are clearly installed on this example. Later models were called the BT 2...

What is interesting about it, is that it was filmed, in technicolor, in 1941. So just before the start of the war.

I bet it would be an interesting watch, if anything, just to see the navy planes and CV-6 Enterprise

Duke's worst movie by far.

Pretty much killed the entire staff...
Don't remember how far it was filmed from "ground zero", but that was certainly befor they knew the residual life of radiation.

Duke smoked 5 packs per day,but they are not certain how he acquired his cancers.
BTW...The Sons Of Katie Elder was the first film he did after losing one of his lungs..
As someone who retains 35% of my lungs from cancer, I cannot believe Duke was able to do his own stunts on just one lung...and yet he did for that film and those afterward.

Could someone create the USS Ranger in the game editor and post what a screen shot of her ship class plus maybe a couple upgrades to cover until early 1943. I'm thinking about adding her to a Dec 8th campaign. Start her arriving in Balboa in late Dec 1941, and withdrawing in Sep. of 42. I have the Artwork for Ranger. I just need her built in the game editor. If anyone can help, thanks!!![&o]

In real life she was actually at Cape Town on Dec 7th escorting the transports which were carrying reinforcements to Singapore.
Most mods show only the transports but the Ranger and some American CA's were there as well.

Also remember the Ranger had lousy ventilation for warmer climes and her portholes were actually welded shut.
