Unit Counter Numbers

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Unit Counter Numbers

Post by cdcool »

Really dumb question
What do the numbers mean? As an example I'm still not 100% sure
9=8
7=15
4-35

Thanks

If it shows an equals sign like this: 9=15

Then the 9 is attack CV and the 15 is defence CV. The defence can be bigger as it takes fortifications into consideration. Terrain is just a fortification level added to the hex.

If it shows a minus sign like this: 9-15

Then the 9 is attack CV and the 15 is movement points remaining.

You can also make it show Garrison values so it will look like this: 8G=66

The Garrison value is the theoretical strength under good weather...so your garrisons don't change just because it is snowing.

You can hit the 'z' key to switch between them.

It is also possible to go into the options and make it so it displays 'name' instead of 'numeric'

In that case it will be a shortened version of the unit's name instead of the combat values.

Page 16 under Unit Counter Info and the Player's Handbook mentions it on page 7 near the top right (but I'm not sure they do a good job mentioning the = sign being how you can tell which is which). Not a dumb question at all.

BTW, I shouldn't have said "they" since I worked on the manuals. [:)] Better to have said "we".
