Winter is coming, STEF78 (russian) vs Pitaman (axis)

Post by STEF78 »

GC bitter end, Full FOW, random weather, +1

I'm in charge of the russians and this AAR will show the danger of blizzard for the german player after a poor summer campaign.

Below, the situation turn 18, first turn of mud. I have more than needed HI and ARM and suffered light losses.

Leningrad is doomed but the russian still holds lots of ground.

Blue arrows, main Pzg axes of moves.

ouch, this promises to be grim for your opponent. Only 1.1m captured, all that industry available (if you ever need it) and a 5m man army just waiting for the blizzard [;)]

German army will be in full retreat by January/FEB 1942 and due to losses from lack of space to trade will pretty much put the Germans on the defensive from 1942 on.

Blizzard! STEF78 (russian) vs Pitaman (axis)

Post by STEF78 »

BLIZZARD

We are entering (mild) blizzard season... the front is as shown below.

In the extreme north, we have a finnish offensive (???)

Between lake Ilmen and Lake Ladoga, german front line is very strong, from lake Ilmen to VK, it's strong.

German front is very weak from Orel to Voronej.

Most of german Pzd/Mot are at the extreme east of the bulge south of Voronejh (?)

Romanians are left alone to keep the extreme South from the sea to Zaporoje, and from Dniepropetrovsk to Poltava.

Blizzard, 2nd week...

Now the german defences are in really bad shape. A lot of units are in great danger and some parts of the front near collapsing

Blizzard, 2nd week...

Post by STEF78 »

Focus on 3 "hot" areas

Orel

A dozen of german units are near to be trapped

Image

Kharkov

The corrdor is still open but it depends on a romanian mountain brigade and an italian cavalry div.... The bulk of the german mobile units is doomed.

Image

South

2 pockets. 1 sealed with the romanians, the other will be reopened.

Congrats to STEF78 on a game well played! I made several mistakes as the Germans and will learn from them so I hope my game play will be better in other games. Another big factor in this game was mud. Mud came early, turn 3, and hit each weather zone, at the right moment to hurt the Germans. That said, nothing should take away from STEF78 skilled game and my poor play. Because of these facts combined with latest beta release, I resigned from this game and offer my congrats to STEF78 on a game well played!

Merci Schascha!

Thanks to you Pitaman, you're obviously a good person.

The difference of experience is the main reason of the result. I play intensively WITE for 4 years and don't anymore make huge mistakes against "normal" players.

Thanks for the proposal

I don't consider myself as very good player. I'm far behind the top WITE players (MT, sapper222, you ....) but I have now played a consistent number of 1941 campaigns...

Unfortunatly, most players stop between turn 17 (mud) and 28 (en december 1941) so I have only played 12 games entering 1942 and 6 past 1943.

I have currently 2 games ongoing. Not sure if I can handle 3 at the same time. Let's wait for 1.08.09...

Situation of german army at the begining of the turn is critical

Kharkov

I have 2 spot to reseal the Pocket: north of Bielgorod or more east

Image

Orel

My spearheads are cut off, but german flanks are so weak...

Image

South

Multiple opportunities to reseal the Pocket, 4 romanians units doomed and open fields in front of my cav divs!
