Mystery of 1870 letter flown out of besieged Paris by balloon

"A letter from a man to his mother that was flown out of Paris by hot-air balloon during the Prussian siege in 1870 has turned up in Australia’s National Archives, where staff are keen to discover the family’s fate."

Thanks for sharing! [:)] A valuable and interesting piece of postal history! How many (past or present) Postal Historians (stamp collectors or philatelists) do we have here? It's still a great hobby!

I collected stamps for a couple of years as a kid. But I didn't have enough patience for it. Much more fun playing with toy soldiers, or playing games. Or football. Or... [:D]

Personally, I have learned alot about Geography, History and Military History over the years of Stamp Collecting and I still enjoy it. [:)]
