You might check out Train Fever. I never got too far into it in the early going, but the developers have made improvements to the original iteration and it's much better than when it was released. Perhaps not your cup of tea in the end, but it's certainly worth a try/look. Especially now that it's been around for a while and come quite a ways since the start. I've been thinking about getting back into it myself of late.

Or there's also Simutrans.

Train Fever is wonderful Sim +, the devs have been working on it...I definitely recommend it!

Railroads and Robber Barons is a complete name for the game from Avalon Hill, I wasn't referring to Sid Meier's Railroads he made for his daughter.

I have been playing RRT2 on my 64 bit Win7 system without any problems other that insanely fast scrolling (have to use arrow keys).

I recently finished Stephen Ambrose's book Nothing Like It In The World. It's about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad and is excellent. Wish I could find a game about that subject. I can try building it in RRT2 but it's hard to pay for it when the game doesn't give you tons of government bonds and land.

There was a similar one I used to have called Der Industrie Giant, a little more scenario focused, but really fun.

Need to see if I still have the disks and it would work on Win7.

(also scan the GOG catelogue but I doubt it is there)

Yes, I have that one and Locomotion and Transport Tycoon Deluxe. The sad thing about Industry Giant while a great game engine an AI is that the maps are the same and once you play them all it's not much fun to play them again. I prefer the random map generator games like Sid Meier's and 1830 and Transport Tycoon.

1830 probably has the best AI of all 3 as on higher than normal the ai will not float your railroad and buy and sell the stock to each other when you do to drive your stock prices down. Very hard game to beat at higher levels. I would enjoy a larger map of this particular game though.

We don't tolerate this kind of language nor all this aggressiveness towards other community members.

RRT I played the most of all three versions. Tried RRT 2 on a LAN but always got sync errors. Played a lot of Oil Imperium too.

Rails Across America wasn't bad either.

The original Ports of Call....... great game.

The original RRT, which you can get free, works in Win10. It comes with DOSbox

Thanks Aurelian, I played the original, but liked the second one much more.

I poked around my hard drive and apparently I copied the install directory from my old XP system. I have not tried to install it after getting Win7. The old install works fine. If you can find someone with an XP system, try installing on that then copying the installed game over to your computer. The folder is 154 megs, including some extra maps I downloaded.
