RE: 1944 November 05
Well, andav really is super aggressive. That single cruiser strike. Wow. And it actually hit with a torpedo And his bombardments might be working well, but he's really using up a lot of bombers!
About Hokkaido, as expected a lot of potential size-9 airfields, and even a size 9 port which is always nice.
Operation Nudge and Nudge closer instead would give you several size 7 airfields and one size 8, which is better than I expected. The question then is still whether or not you have enough planes right now to embark in such a prolonged war of attrition
And yes you completely maxed out the engineers on Daito Shoto. According to some table I found on this forum, for Daito Shoto the maximum amount of engineers usable is something like 500, and you have more than 1700 counting engineering vehicles

Jintsu! Too bad she didn't cause any collisions, too.
Andav doesn't have much at all on Hokkaido. Heck, I had more on Hokkaido and I lost it in Jan 44 I think.[:(]
Are there a lot of engine factories on Hokkaido?

I think that you have turned the corner at Long San since the destroyed items are greater than the disabled ones. Except for the clerks and cooks while the ditch diggers are equally destroyed/disabled.
As far as the lone cruiser, it is better to go out that way than bombed in port.
As far as bombing your troops, unless he can use them effectively as "Special Attack" units, the bombers are best used to slow down your attacks than getting bombed on the ground.

RE: 1944 November 05
It only takes one hit if it were to explode in an important place like the magazine. I sank an "E" with one 6" shell that way.
Maybe make a small SCTF and have your carriers follow it? A CA, CL and two DDs with good captains as well as excellent day/night training?

RE: 1944 November 05
I think he was implying that the hit wasn't very much. As far as a separate SCTF, the carrier TF is down there alone. CA London is the biggest escort. Remember that this game has been a "little tough" on RN, et al cruisers. [:D]
The battleships are at/near Alor Star so that when (translate = planning for success) the Imperial stack is retreated into Georgetown, the battleships will shatter their formations so our troops have time to cut them off and trap them there.

RE: 1944 November 05
Magazine explosions are pretty rare - about one in a hundred penetrating hits results in one from what I have seen. You can't rely on them in your planning - a naval battle is more likely to be a grind where the less capable force gets ground down the most.
PS - even more rare: someone reported getting an enemy CV with a magazine explosion (not the usual Ammo Storage Explosion) and a couple of times in my games I have seen a non-penetrating hit trigger a magazine explosion (after a deck hit and "fires on the main deck" message).

The action in China was in the air.
All the armour in the spearhead moving down the Malay Peninsula has caught up to the enemy between Alor Star, Georgetown, and Taiping and will attack tomorrow. Two divisions will catch up then and be able to carry on the attack the following day if necessary, the idea being to retreat the enemy troops into Georgetown and prevent them from reaching Taiping. Meanwhile enemy units are seen already moving SE from Georgetown, so Burnett with Valiant and Queen Elizabeth will bombard tonight to hamper their progress. Willis with Prince of Wales, Howe, King George V, Richelieu, and Renown is also at Alor Star, waiting for the Imperial main body to be retreated into Georgetown so that similar treatment may be applied.
When first one and then a second base on the western coast of Malaya came over to our side, I neglected to take advantage of that by immediately flying in troops from Victoria Point and moving them out to block roads and rails. One has since gone back to the Dark Side, but Utan Melintang is still ours. Two units will begin flying in at once and the balance will be brought in by sea in assault transport. A small part of one is loading now on a single LST at Langkawi, the island they seized NW of Alor Star. That element will land in the clear hex just NE of Utan Melintang, set up a blocking position and await the rest of their unit. Not to mention cross their fingers.
Good progress at Lang Son.
The ACM at Oosthaven was finally got.
The two armored units attacking alone made a good showing on Daito Shoto.
The troops at Naha have been resupplied and are in great shape. AV is up to 2,751 and while not fully recovered in that sense, they will make their first attack tomorrow. The B-29 groups will be diverted from attacks on Daito Shoto to strike defensive positions around Naha. The CVE based Avengers will all join in. All five old BB (1 per TF) will bombard, as will several CA and CL TF, and the three Iowa BBs.
Troops on New Guinea have begun loading for the Tokunoshima invasion.
IJN cruisers spotted in the South China Sea.

The action in China was in the air.
Clever Imperial bombers are trying to deplete our stocks of .50 cal ammo! Our southern armoured unit still has 95% disruption but I suspect they will start to recover. Our P-51B sweeps over Tuyun fought to about even. See air losses below. The Hainan invasion convoys will move to a point 1 hex NW of Kiungshan, covered by the 2x CL TF and 2x groups of Spitfire VIII. The continued heavy losses to Imperial bomber groups should make their passage less treacherous. None of our ships in the Gulf of Tonkin have been spotted by naval search recently. Annoyingly, Haiphong is short of fuel.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
