WA attack from Italy into Austria?

Post by Phleem »

In my campaign game vs the normal AI it is February '43, and I have taken most of Italy and destroyed a large portion of the German units that were holding it. I am curious if it is feasible to move NE and work my way into Austria. The terrain and rail transport do not look very friendly for that operation, but it would be interesting for novelty if nothing else.

Has anyone tried going from Italy NE into Austria, and if so how did it go?

I have but it's always been in 1945 just as the Germans are collapsing. In 1943 I'd think the Germans still would have plenty of strength to move around and give you a fight.

I've done it in mid-late 44.

Its a quagmire, working up the rails, plinking a hex per turn. You are close to German borders and reinforcement. I transferred most of my heavy units via Southern France an used them to break into rear of the defenders.
