Russophile plays Napoleon. No current opponents allowed

Post by Aurelian »

Just started a new PBEM, as France.

Starting in January 1805, there really isn't much to see. No reforms or decrees are visible.

Because movement in harsh weather is *bad*, we build as many replacements as we can.

The map below shows movement to depots. Not shown is the Army of Italy, which thanks to the distractions of the Empress, I forgot about.

Well, that's my story and I'm standing by it.

Improvements started in Amiens, Arras, Lille, Metz. Forgot other things for the same reason above. (Taken care of in T2.

Edit: Never mind, I see it is not a mistake but a shortening treatment like Napleon and Berndtt.

Due to a mishap, we started again.

This time, nothing moves.

The same cities get their improvements, except Rouen instead of Metz

The volunteer cards are played. And we're trying to export goods.

New pics later

Why has the Grande Armee (top picture in post 4) only got 7,890 men?

Why has the Grande Armee (top picture in post 4) only got 7,890 men?

That's just is what's in Napoleon's stack. It's the command HQ of the Army.

Image

Here you can see Napoleon's command radius, shaded blue. Any corps formed in that area will be part of his army.

The white colored leaders are all corps commanders under his command/influence.

The leader at the upper right is outside of Napoleon's radius, so he is independent.

Being part of his army allows things like marching to the sound of the guns. If in the same region, it allows everyone to move together.

On the map, you can then have three kinds of land Stacks:
*The Army Stack, which is the Stack commanding subordinate Corps.
*The Corps Stack, which is a Stack subordinate to an Army Stack.
*Independent Stack, which is a Stack Out of the Command Chain. These three Stacks each have Units and they are all “containers” for Units. Units represent formations of various sizes and act as “containers” for elements, with from 1 to 18 elements in each Unit.

Corps are attached to specific Armies. Their purpose is twofold:
they never suffer the Out of Command Chain penalty and they get the following bonuses when operating within range of their Army:
*The Corps commander’s Strategic, Offensive and Defensive Ratings are increased by the expertise of the Army commander.
*If stacked in the same region, the Army’s formations have the ability to stay together during movement by choosing the corresponding Special Order (Synchronized Move).
*If spread out in different regions, there is a chance of supporting an adjacent Corps engaged in combat (i.e. “March to the Sound of the Guns”).
This ability is influenced by the level of Military Control in both regions and by the Corps’ Cohesion.
*Increased Command Point efficiency.
*Combat bonuses when several Corps are fighting together (they will help each other more efficiently during a fight).
*Some special abilities of the Army commander can benefit its Corps.

Turn 2

Nothing much. Started to build a Guard division and asked Spain for a State visit. Did agree to one with the Ottomans.

A couple of questions:

1. Why is Wessex where Sussex should be?

2. Re your post above, what are the limitations on building the 'sexy' Guard Divisions? Is it cost or are there any other restrictions?

The first I can't answer. (The company is based in France, so maybe they decided to give it the proper name? Map maker does get to choose the name. :) )

Trivia: The old "La Bataille of..." series board games, the compass pointed toward Paris rather than North.

The second, there is only 1 Guard Inf Division available at the moment. There are 18 Guard Cav and a Guard Horse Artillery buildable.

Somewhere down the line, the option to build the Middle and Young Guard will pop up.

Only the French start with the ability to build divisions. Everyone else has to build brigades then combine them with an active leader.

At least till they get to buy Army Reform.

You need enough money/conscripts/war supply/horses to build. Also keep in mind that elite units cost more in replacement chits than regular units.

Aurelian, I was hoping to see you as head of the Russian army charging to victory with your now recruitable Cossacks!

Ah well, I guess the French will do. [;)]

The French will do :) Just so long as nobody does what my other PBEM Austrian opponent did .( Screw the rest of the country, I'll stick *everything* in one region)

Looking over this, this looks very roughly like CW2. If I have an understanding of that game, would this one be easy to pick up?

Yes. At it's core it's the same engine.

Turn 3. Armee of Hannover moved to Hannonver to annex it if I want. (You need at least a division there to do that. And it's the starting point for creating the Grand Empire.)

That move, short though it was, caused 25 hits. Moving in harsh weather is rough.

Turn 12: Gaeta falls to siege.

Next up is Napoli. That will allow the creation of the Kingdom of Naples..... if I have the money and engagement points.. (100,000 and 50)
