[WAD] ARM missiles won't attack generic radar

Post by JPFisher55 »

I am playing one of the Northern Inferno scenarios as a stand alone scenario. I just noticed that my A-6 will not launch its Standard missiles at a radar
installation that is broadcasting generic search radar. I have noticed this behavior in other scenarios.

I attach saved game file. I am wondering why the ARM missiles do not seem to attack generic radiations.

I think Standard ARM is optimized against Fire Control radars, so search radars (who operate with lower frequency) might not be within missile's seeker frequency. If you try manual attack with Shift-F1, it should tell the reason.

But need Devs to check anyways.

Thanks!

I'm running B757.12. I think it is the most up to date public release.

I had issues with ARMs (caused by ignorance, rather than a bug, I think).

This was my thread, it may help you:

tm.asp?m=3983283&mpage=1&key=&#3983972

Basically, in my situation, the plane I was using didn't have a sensor capable of picking up the radar. The missile could target the radar, but only if a better sensor (from another plane) detected it.

The Standard ARM does not detect the generic radar because it has no compatible frequency to it.

This is a common problem with volume-search radars, because ARMs are usually tune-optimized against fire-control emitters. In such cases you have to jam them or physically destroy them.

99 times out of 100 the issue, as has been mentioned, is that the ARM has no freq to detect/home on. I can't recall if there is a DB we can consult that tells us the valid targets & frequencies of a given ARM, however.

Added a note to document this somewhere.

I can just see the poor ARM having a nervous breakdown trying to filter out all the various 'radars' that suddenly showed up if it tried to include every ordinary radars in its view.[;)]
