The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Many times I will task organize the OOB to reflect what I want to do. Many times I don't go with the standard OOB.

If you play the scenarios and campaigns I create I don't cross attach at the beginning of the game. I leave to the player.

Something to consider when playing.

Getting helos into good positions can be tough. Soviets are AD heavy and you really need to find and kill the main AD units with arty or direct fire before turning the helos loose in many cases. It is also a good idea to keep them low and screened by hills against known AD locations. Look for those flashing lightning bolts and note the locations.[8D]

Like cbelva, I re-organize into battlegroups. Most of the time, it's dictated by the fact that some units will be out of the command radius of their mother HQ when I position the units where I want them. This may be gamey but I've sometimes had the units report to the main HQ as this had the largest command radius.

How can it be gamey when it's your battle group and they do what you tell them to do.

Well, at least in theory they do...[:D]

The flashing lightning bolts are my first target when I find them. I want the enemy AD out of working order.

I don't bother to cross attach.
I'll usually deploy an armour Co. with a Mech Co. when I play NATO ...or deploy a Tank Bn. with MotInf. Bn.when playing PACT.
This formula routinely works - like clubbing baby Seals (don't let a Plt/Co. do what a Co./Bn. can do better)

Rob.

There is an icon that momentarily flashes as a counter on screen, It's named DetectedRadar. If I knew how to put an image in the thread I would show it to you.

You can find it under the FPRS/DATA/Common folder.

I never thought about shooting at these, maybe because I let the game handle artillery support for me, maybe.

Thanks guys!

I tried a combination of slowing the turn resolution speed and cleaning my glasses...... and sure enough there they were. Another hallmark of this amazing game![&o]

Regarding helo strategy I typically keep them several hexes back from the main assault force. If I want to push them forward ahead of the ground force I often pick a victory point location and issue an attack waypoint four hexes behind it.

I do not overshoot the VP locations as usually you will encounter enemy AD and lose choppers. While they are great in the hunter killer role, they are also excellent scout units so their judicious use to keep them up and about throughout a scenario is a priority for me.
