Japanese Carrier Source Material

Post by John 3rd »

I am looking for additional Japanese source material. Have got Kaigun, Sunburst, Jentschura, and am looking for more. Does anyone have anything worthwhile to peruse and add to the resource library?

If you're looking for more than just the technical details of construction then "Shattered Sword" does a great exploration of how the IJN operated their carriers, particularly the Kido Butai but also their in CVTFs in general.

You may already have this:
The WW2 Database is useful and can be sorted – saves time.

Example: The Kaga.
Note that along with specs it gives operational timeline.
Also if you click on the builder you can see what ships built.

This is the carrier list and can be sorted by name, country, class and year of launch.

Don't have the Watts and Gordon book. What are its strengths?

I'm no expert. Just starting to get into the source material myself (finished Kaigun recently). If you want something light, have you ever thought about the Osprey Series? Particularly, USN Carriers vs IJN Carriers
