RE: Manila Falls
I mean I guess more is more better... but you really only have to land at that hex to the E of LA to block the rail there
Paratroops at Fresno (or Bakersfield!) plus one of the bases on the rail line going north would block all directions except for San Francisco-LA.

Mavis Transports ... I believe you start with a few ... you don't need many (1 squad creates the break you need) and they only require a dot base and an AV ....ORIGINAL: Lokasenna

My 2 cents.
I was planning to bring every available para unit, I don't know if Lowpe plans to do that. Cutting the rail connection around LA is crucial. Paras plus a minor divisional size invasion north of LA can seriously delay Allied countermeassures. If you really want to go nuts, you can also cut the rail connection from the eastern USA. I don't have the map in front of me right now, but I think those islands off the coast of San Diego can be used for long range air drops. It's unlikely that those rear bases are defended by anything more than base forces. Having one or two 'airmobile' light brigades as a follow up might also be worthwhile.
Also... if the invasion is set for late December, it's worthwhile to consider going all in, not just with 11 but with ~20 divisions. Then you can enter LA and defend in heavy urban and mountain terrain, while the bulk of your forces mop up SD. And if your holding operations N and NE of LA have succeeded you might also have time for a coup de main at LA.
It will be very interesting to see how you approach this.
The trouble with taking the offshore islands first for later paradrops to cut the rail is that the time needed to get a working AF for the transports would clue him in to the need to defend the area. Basically, by the time you're able to cut the rails deeper inland it won't matter much, if at all.
Landing outside of LA should cut the rail to San Diego entirely. I think this is a must-land hex if you're going for San Diego. I think you should also land at Port Hueneme or Santa Barbara to cut the most direct rail line to LA, but there are is the other line that comes from inland instead of the coast. You may not be able to take those hexes, so I don't think you can rely on the idea that LA can be cut off completely from rail.

RE: Manila Falls
Can he not just rail around using off map rail movement?
I've no idea if that is possible, but it would annoy me considerably if I was an Allied player if you couldn't bearing in mind the size of the US rail network

From the Tracker picture below, you can see I will have some really good planes available for the Western Adventure.
I have the Tojo IIa and the Oscar IIa in service now, but they have yet to actually engage in combat.
The Tojo IIb and the Oscar IIb are important planes because of the number of squadrons that fly them.
I am not sure on what to do with the A6 line...my initial thinking is to focus on making the A6M3a as the primary carrier escort fighter while pursuing the 5 line to the final A6M8 version as defensive fighters.
I feel very good here, and no matter what the Allies do, they will be running into stiff air competition if I decide to fight.
In addition, all squadrons have been converted to Nick A that can be and the pools are growing nicely. I have used them to sweep, LRCAP and strafe with good results.
Not pictured is the Lilly IIb divebomber; which I should have two months early. It is an important anti-shipping plane because of the number of squadrons that can upgrade to it, and the fact it can fly from size 2 runways.
The George, Jack and Frank A will all start production in from first to second quarter 1943. Although the only plane to appear in numbers will be the Frank A as the other two lack squadrons capable of upgrading.

You can see the two rail lines leading to the east coast clearly on this map, Encircled.

The paratroopers need to survive the initial shock attack which comes after movement. The flying boats can all transfer from Coal Harbor...

Yup, you are quite correct

End of June, 1942
I was hoping to catch this province overstacked, but the Chinese made it out and our attack, by tired troops results in shattering a IJA Division...who will now go back to road guard duty while other fresh troops march up. Time for artillery to soften the two Chinese Corp here.

More hijinx here in India. A 30K supply convoy just arrived at Chitt; 5K at Rangoon. More on the way to both areas.
There is quite a lot of industry in the two towns above Calcutta, and they are cranking away and have almost no protection. Why doesn't Jocke bomb them?
There is at least one squadron of P38s here...they got a bloody nose the other day, but now that Calcutta is stocked with fighters again Jocke sure looks like he wants to play. Need to be careful.

Plane notes: I converted my IDA factory today, and also the KI15 II Babs factory. I made extra, and plan on using one squadron for Kamikazes at the end of the game for laughs.[;)]
Others to look at are the H6K5 Mavis factory now that Emily is in production.
The A6M3 is in production, but primarily for upgrading planes to the A6M3a.

I've left the Mavis in production, honestly. I didn't want to build out all the Emilys to convert all the Mavis groups. That's a lot of production and a lot of HI, and the capabilities are comparable enough. Also engines are different, I think.

It's an impressive idea -- but does Japan have the shipping capacity? It sounds like seven or eight divisions might be lost for not much additional damage.
Just did the math, Japan easily has the shipping. Lots of conversions, but so what?

If you take SD...Is the production there destroyed permanently? Or just during your occupation?

Permanently.
I believe the aircraft factories would convert to vehicles or armaments (can't remember which)... and the HI would be cut in half (IIRC).

I love Emily! She is very flexible. You can do all kinds of stuff with her, naval search, troop transport, torpedo attacks, even long range strategic bombing if you are so inclined.ORIGINAL: SqzMyLemon

Started troop conversions today...it takes 11 Adens to carry a division, but you are better off having more especially in the assault divisions.
Emily starts production today...but I don't think you can strategic bomb with patrols (no city attack option). But they are very good planes. Not sad about having a size 30 factory right now.[;)]

I wouldn't be either. You can always turn it off if your pools get big enough.
