Affects and Effects of Airfield Capacity

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Affects and Effects of Airfield Capacity

Post by KWG »

Is there any differences in filling up 1 airfield with Bomber Groups vs. having several airfields with 1 or two droups each?

I know its different for the airfield as in support and supplies, but what about the actual planes and crews, say number of aircraft in strike or range, or more fatigue.

Seems lots of planes taking off and forming up from one airfield is different from planes taking off and forming up from many airfields. Historically planes were scattered at non-filled airfields. As in the placement of groups at the start of campaign.

So is this modeled in any aspects in the game? Been trying to gleam any affects/effects of airfield capacity

As long as the airfield is not overloaded, then I don't think there is a difference. However, I don't know that for sure.

Thanks....So as long as capacity is under 100% no changes,

One consideration, perhaps a little separate from what you're asking, is where your depots lie in relation to the airfields.
The Allies can move supplies to hexes adjacent to depots without using trucks (German range is 3 hexes). Probably worth remembering once you get into northern France.

1 to 3 good to know.

When moving all planes of COMMAND Z off a airfield to a new one(af), and setting supply and TOE to zero, does it make a difference in 'how fast and where to' the supplies, fuel and support go, if you keep the empty airfield under COMMAND Z(until supplies/fuel/support gone) or can you put it under a higher Command without any difference?
If that made sense.
