Runway Priorities

Post by AlGrant »

This is more a question about how the game works (rather than any game problem), I'm wondering if there is any priority given to aircraft launch order when there are multiple aircraft waiting for a take off slot?

At scenario start it looks like aircraft are launched in alphabetical order of any active missions.
And it would be easy to use activation time or names like 01mission, 02mission to launch in a give order if needed, but not sure how it works during longer/larger scenarios where aircraft fly multiple sorties and the potential for aircraft queuing for a slot.

Do certain mission types take precedence over others, like Strike over Ferry etc or is it just first come first served? Any delays would perhaps be down to number of runways and type of aircraft

The scenario I'm playing right now has a total of 47 aircraft at a single-unit airfield (2x3201-4000m Runways) and I'm only seeing a delay of about 2 mins, so it's not a massive problem ..... however if the bad guys bogey's were inbound I might feel differently [:D]

Hi i havent been playing Command long, i've only played a few scenarios and lately i've been playing just Falcon BMS. Cant answer your question i'm afraid and just wanted to know as you've most likely played more (and bigger) scenarios than me...have you had many scenarios where the enemy has launched strike sorties against your forces/bases? all i've had so far was in the En Garde scenario there were 2 tornados inbound one attacking my carrier from north east, the other from south west. Intercepted them with rafales as well as SAMs being fired at them from my carrier task group, it seemed like a pretty stupid attack, only 2 tornados striking a carrier group without dedicated fighter escorts.

I'm hoping there are scenarios, especially bigger ones where the enemy launch sorties to strike you with adequate support. Would make you think more like when you're planning for your own strikes, do you leave a certain number of fighters at base/carrier for intercepts? and base that number on intel of enemy forces in the briefing? admittedly i have only played fairly small scenarios so far, En Garde being the biggest one.

Cns.... There are number of scenarios that red force opens with large strikes heading your way… I can't remember them all… However a number of gunners Northern fury scenarios open with I mediate attacks on your forces....

On launching your aircraft at the beginning of a scenario… I always choose some AEW assets and some defenders… Them launch them.... So that the clock starts ticking on them to take off and be in front of the line… Then I'll wait a little while and start launching my other assets…

I like to do pretty much the same, at scenario start it's easy enough to influence who gets airborne first.
But not so much during longer scenarios with aircraft doing multiple sorties.
Never actually seen it become a win/lose issue and any delays with aircraft waiting for a runway slot have been fairly short and manageable, my query was just me wondering IF there was any priority system in the game.

Also wondered (and I'm going to make a quick test scenario to try it) if the AI (friendly and enemy) would launch vulnerable support mission aircraft (tankers, AEW etc) if there were opposition fighters close to the airfield.

Its not the ai...its the scenario designer. Also, I think most scenarios should start with patrol aircraft already on station. I know there are some complications in working with missions if planes are in the air at the beginning...but it can be worked around fairly easily. This avoids a rush to launch at the start.
