Battle of Britain

Post by Auchinleck »

Great game engine for the entire War In Europe, and Africa Campaign to be modded. I was disappointed in the Victory conditions in BOB though. Because at the end of the long battle all I was awarded was INCONCLUSIVE??? I knocked down or turned back every bomber the Luftwaffe threw at me, including a fair share of Me109s. I only lossed 3 convoys, no ground targets, took out the Nazi Railway Gun, and even bombed a German Merchantman docked in Calais. My suggestion would be there should've been levels of victory or defeat, for better replay ability. Like Marginal Victory, Tactical Victory, Decisive Victory, etc. For as good as I thought I did, I would say I earned at least a Marginal victory. INCONCLUSIVE would indicate a draw. German morale was down to 10% last time I looked. It does not inspire me to want to try all over again. I can't picture how I could have fared better as the Royal Air Force.

Yes Auchinleck I agree with your assessment - maybe they had to rush it to have it ready. As only the DO 17s, and He 11s count for morale along with sinking the barges I don't know how anyone does it.
I've tried 3 times and the germans finished with two 20's and a 15. Since only the Bristol Beaufighter can damage the barges I don't see how you can finish unless you get that plane a turn or two sooner or the scenario is a turn longer. I know there are people a lot better than me but it seems impossible within the time limit.

Wellington and Blenheim bombers are the best way to deal with the barges. Provided you can provide escort and/or clear the skies over the target periodically.

I've been playtesting the scenario myself on difficulty level 5 (hardest) so it certainly is winnable.

I'm an average long-term player. I beat it the first try on the middle difficulty level. I didn't do it until the very last turn and I decimated my bomber fleet to do it.

I have tried to play it again but the planes won't fire at each other now. So I put it away and went back to Pac man, at least it still works.
