converting the classic scenario's

Post by larryfulkerson »

Thomas Harvey volunteered to convert all the good old classic scenario's and I would like to help him.
So I thought maybe after a scenario is converted the converter could post something
about having done it so the rest of us won't attempt a fix of that scenario too.
I get dibs on Barbarosa '41.

I converted War in the West 2.0 by Carl Skaar. He left his email address and I asked for permission to
modify his scenario but his email address no longer works. So I did it anyway and made a version 4.0
ready to send to Tamak.WiTW isn't one of the classics but I thought maybe it was worth the effort to convert
it. Maybe not. I'll have to take a look at it.

Mr Harvey tells me via email that he converted Yugoslovia scenario to the 4.0 standard. And I just now
got through with Barbarosa '41 so that one's done.

Converting them is easy enough - load into the editor and save. More difficult is fixing any errors and re-balancing the scenarios.

Since the work is going at some pace, I am assuming that re-balancing is not having a great deal of play testing.

Best wishes,
Steve

Thanks, thought would be something like that, but that would mean that the TOAW IV editor is finished and owned by some people. Not that I'm jealous or something, but I guess there's no point in making suggestions for the new game...

Hey you guys..........I've been playtesting the changes I made to Barbarosa '41 ( v4.1 )
and I need to report here that B41v4.1 is definately unbalanced now. The Axis troops
don't get away from the starting block like they used to and most games are Soviet wins.
D'oh. So it's going to need some more changes yet. Just so you know.

I just now got through adjusting the events for the Overlord44, Normandy 44 and NormandyRommel44 scenario's.

EDIT: I just got an email from Tamas and he said:
"Since you are already in the development forum, feel free to post your scenarios there for the guys to check out."

Upon Thomas's advice I checked out NATO-Warsaw Pact 78 and modified several of the Theater recon events.

Hey Meyer1, my advice is to send an email to Tamas Kiss ( Tamask ) and volunteer to be a beta
tester or a scenario playtester or the guy who answers the phone or something. You might get a
free copy of TOAW IV out of it and get to work on the team.

You can contact Tamas here: tamask(at)slitherine(dot)co(dot)uk

Yeah but that is the easy part. The hard part is going to be having to playtest all the new conversions to
determine if they are still balanced and "fun to play" etc. The changes I made to Barbarosa '41 made
the Soviets win all the time so I've had to adjust the movement bias for the Axis troops, add a bunch of RR
engineers and adjust the events so the theater recon works like it's supposed to now with the new rules.
It's turning into a major project. I'm not complaining though because it's actually fun to playtest. A PBEM
playtest would be ideal but there's probably not enough beta team members to give that a go on any large
scale.
