Batavia comes close, but avoids the loss of the sole defender.

Ground Strikes don't live to the expectation, expect in Batavia where the sole defending unsuppiled non elite Japanese mech is is disorganized: it is now a sitting duck and an easy conquest.

After a complex land-disembark-invasion impulse, the allies attck south of Hamburg.
It is more than time to take an interest in that city: Kiel is an objective hex yet unconquered.
The fall of both Berlin and Hamburg should see the fall of Germany; but we are not yet there.

The result is the minimum satisfying result for the allies: the hex is captured, some units are not disorganized! Possibly Hamburg can be successfully conquered on the next impulse, with a lot of luck!
For once, the para were critical in the success; they survive and may soon be reused on Hamburg.

Having disabled the whole German air force of course helps!

One of the mech had to retreat 5 hexes into Denmark..

The USA have found reserves and fo not forget to land on Shangai, which falls despite the defense of one corp and one div. But they are disorganized and out of supply. And of course there are three battleships supporting the action, as well as four carrier squadrons.

In India, the Commonwealth get rids of annoying partisans.
Nothing very important.

And the grip is closing around Japan.
While these small invasions look unimportant, they are, to the contrary, quite critical to any invasion of Japan: The more hexe held around Japan, the more air support that can be mustered!

In northern China, the Japanese lose one of the last cities they still hold.
The northern army group is hopelessly lost: it is only now a matter of time before it gets destroyed.

As expected, Batavia falls easily.

An interesting question might be why I did not move the NEI territorial back to Batavia.
1) it was initially moved there to prevent an easy capture of the small port by the US mech unit; Batavia might have fallen much longer before if that move had not been done. Moving it away too soon opened up again the possibility of an early attack on Batavia. After all, two corps accross the straight attacking with the fleet support against the two (likely disrupted) defenders would give a 14 attack (or so) vs 4, i.e +7, with an additional +3 (+4 disorg, -1 city), or +10. With a paradrop (the para has been lurking around for long with the appropriate air transport), add +5 for a +15 attack: a good chance for success.

2) later, it just got stuck when the straight was constantly closed by Commonwealth naval units.

3) it prevented an attack on Palembang too.

The attack on Menado is easy and was not needed, considering that the NEI are going to get conquered.
However, this sets the div on another sea, where islands are still in need of being conquered, as in the case of Saipan.

This impulse good rolls come as a good counterpoint to the previous impulse rather poor ones...

Tokyo is far from the China Sea.
The USA can only send three bombers.

However, the Japanese lose one fighter against one fighter.
Not a good exchange.

Yet, against too few planes, the port is safer than it looks!
Unlikely that the USA will try again after losing three planes for absolutely no result!

Well, one must confess that 15 is far more than the expected result (lowest 2 of 4)

The allies send a large number of bombers over Hamburg, for no effect.

The USA do the same in Hiroshima, but Japan still have performant fighters to defend their cities.

Anyway, the bombers need training: they wildly miss their target.

Many combat this turn.
The allies start with Hamburg, which, unlike Berlin, falls on the first attack.

But Berlin refuses such an easy victory.
The siege of Berlin has now been lasting for many turns, and the Russians have been unable to capture it.

A lucky invasion, especially when one considers that it was absulutely unecessary: a sure sign of my being tired, the island on the west is already held by the allies!
The Russians look at that useless 15 roll with envy.

Another useless attack in Bulgaria: there is just nothing to gain there.
Still, it is very successfull considering that the Bulgarian unit could not retreat.
