The allies AA is unforgiving, and here goes an elite bomber...
Note that in order to protect the fleet, the USA chose to spend 4 surprise points on AA.

The Japanese AA is not nice too.
With 17 points, the Chises bomber is detsroed, as is an old US naval bomber.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The Japanese lose three of their best carriers, on is sunk, the others are damaged.
The Japanese decide to stay; their best chance is to surprise the small task force with 4 transport sitting with little protection in the 2 box: what better could be done with the fleet ?

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The second round is likely to be bloody.
I wonder wether it was a good idea for the USA to try and bomb the Japanese fleet: it's very likley that many bombers wil be lost. On the other side, this is war...
I did not remember the rule saying that planes could not fly from damaged carriers. It is logical, and it makes the Japanese air force pathetic for the round. Anyway, should they pass two bombers, they might sink a loaded transport of amphibious.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
Yeah!
I just love this game...
Forget everything that happened before: the game locked on the first Air to Air round of the second naval combat round.
I'm going to have to redo all. I'm not going to get the same results, and I'm not going to take screenshots of the whole battle. I'll do the naval combat as they happened (I'll pick the same search rolls.)
You'll only get to see the final results.
Sorry!

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
My friend I play with experienced too some crashes during air combat.
RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
I have decided to play it smart with the allies.
Using the surprise points, I avoid the combat: this will let the alllies move vulnerable units away from the sea are and move the whole US fleet in the North China sea, in order to gain total superiority. In this fight, the allied fleet is not at an advantage, even though the previous combat gave good results.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The only "crashes" I have experienced in air combat are focus problems where a window that you need to click on pops up behind another window. Frequently (but not always) you can get the hidden window by either opening and closing other MWiF windows (F5, F8, F10), or by minimizing and restoring MWiF. These two methods between them work about 90% of time. The 10% of the time they don't work are very annoying. I have learned that it good to save after each naval and air combat.
The mere fact that I have learned that it is good to do so does not, of course, mean that I remember to do so. [:)]
If you have experienced other types of crash, please tell us on the Tech Support forum. Thank you.

I thought I knew how to play this game....
RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The Allied and Japanese fleets find each other. When one sees the number of ships in the sea area, one could hope so.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
But the Japanese air force is utterly outclassed.
I do not have the screen shot for the end of the air air combat; after aborting with the Japanese, the game goes immediately to anti-air. The fight went for four rounds at +7/-7, the Japanese hoping for a lucky abort or destruction of some front US fighters. After having lost its front fighter and three bombers, the Japanese loses all chance to damage the allied fleet (transports were the target), and also all chances to prevent the overwhelming number of bombers to reach the fleet.
With luck, some planes may fly again later: now, they are just doomed.

The Japanese Flak takes down two old naval bombers and forces one heavy Chinese bomber back home.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
I never saw such a naval battle.
The result is awful; 4 carriers destroyed, 2 carriers damaged, some other ships either sunk or aborted.
Absolutely ugly. [X(]
Nevertheless, the Japanese will stay at sea on the hope of finding one of the transport train in a gun battle: The fleet has no other purpose now. It is obviously no more disuasive, so strong is the allied presence.
I should mention that the British fleet has not moved out of Singapore, even though it is more powerful than the Japanese one...

Hum...
Only one word: Bad! [:(]
This would have been good if the US roll had been the allied roll and conversely.
But there... Just like the previous naval round, only with suprise points, and fewer ships to defend against bombers...

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The flak destroys one more old bomber, but the rest of the US armada flies through.
The result is disappointing: only one of the four remaining (but empty) carriers is sunk. The others are only damaged. Well, that puts them out of the war anyway! The cruiser fleet suffers.
This time, the Japanese can't even expect to reach the transports if they stay at sea, so the Japanese fleet aborts. Knowing full well that a port attack will shortly follow in the bay of Tokyo. Bt going again to Ominato is not a tasty option either: Tokyo is under good air protection, not Ominato which can now be easily cut from supply, possibly even captured should the allies make some effort.

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
Just so you know, I'm posting in real time.
I'm waiting for the Japanese aborting ships to actually return to base.
Three times: one for each batch of naval units that were aborted in combat, one for the final abort phase.
It has now been 30 minutes, and I'm waiting, waiting, waiting...
The first two times took about ten minutes each, but it seems the last one is going to be (much ?) longer!

RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR
The season for carpet bombing has arrived.
Russia finds it fashionable and tries it on Berlin, with success: the nasty anti-tank goes away.
That's a very good result: it was worth 8 in defense (because the attacking units always contain armored units), and as a division, it will be hard to replace: Germany is becoming short on divisions, especially of that quality.
