Thanks for the opinions....what had I asked?, oh right. Personally I'd rather be a gentleman than be morally or historically correct on this point. I did learn more than I knew about Brit CVs using actual US units. We all knew they used their planes.

As requested by AW1Steve, I reviewed the thread. Things got testy and AW1Steve may have exaggerated a bit with the 90% of house rules favoring the Japanese comment. I don't play PBEM, so I can't say for sure, but 90% seems a bit high from an outsider's perspective.

What got Symon banned was his personal attacks on people, mostly calling into question their maturity with rather colorful language. There was nothing like that here. There was a bit of finger pointing language ("you do x" sort of language), but it didn't go that far. The finger pointing doesn't help and is skirting the bounds. But it was more than Steve doing it.

I'll let it go for now, but please back off on the finger pointing or I'll have to lock the thread.

Bill

Edit: Just a side note, everyone on the net seems to be gritchy these days. I'm on another forum unrelated to this and people are going after each other right and left. Often over very minor things too. If they were all in Washington or Oregon I could explain it, the air quality here is pretty bad from the fires (Washington State has the largest fire in its history right now). But obviously that isn't the case since it's people from all over the world.

See here I thought it was all tongue-in-cheek without any seriousness to it, on either side.

Well, anyone who needs to can point the finger at me no matter what the subject. The gorn did it. We can thank the gorn for that. Everything would have been fine if the gorn didn't get involved.

Truth be told I've never seen you point a finger at anybody. Claws, yes. Fingers, no.

Well, I may not have a finger to point, but I sentence all those experiencing contention to listen to this:

However, women know that the only thing more beautiful than a man is a horse.

Well, after a good night's sleep to calm down, a morning shower to clean my stinkin' rear end and the intervention of Bill in the meantime I'm just going to drop the issue with this last post. I apologize to Steve for calling him an AFB and the exagerated comparison with Symon. I still maintain that it is at least unpolite to generalize all Japanese players into glory hunters that demand every advantage they can get in order to win (apparently I have not been clear in my English, as I am "finding joy and pleasure in playing the Japanese without winning"). I will try to ignore such denigrations in the future. Fortunately, just how many house rules my PBEM partner and I use is up to us to decide and nobody else. FYI we use a handful which for me is not an 'exessively great number', and they are not exclusively anti-Allied. If you, Steve, feel better with no or very few house rules, I am happy for you.

Give me her email, I'll tell her you said that and ask for a pic. [:'(] If I had a wife she'd look like this, who's uglier?

Wow - go off net for a couple of days and miss all the fireworks!

Truthfully, I think L_S_T is on the money with his comments on house rules - they're use is to preclude both sides from doing things the game system would allow, but were technically, tactically or operationally not feasible. Examples include the famed 10,000 ft ceiling on Allied HBs (favors Jpn) and only one port attack on turn 1 (favors Allies), paying PP to move restricted units out of Manchuria (favors Allies), Sweep ceiling limits (initially favors Allies, then Jpn), Night bombing restrictions (Neutral).

In all PBEMs I've played, house rules were a part of the initial agreement, and also, were modified during play as things come up that don't seem "right".

OK. Let me ask one more time. Why? Why those specific rules? Has there recently been a case where there has been a need? Or are those based on old events? Have the many updates and fixes repaired these alleged problems? Or are we still basing this on old laundry lists that come down from older versions of this game , or heaven help us , PREVIOUS versions? Have any developers or Matrix people weighted in on these questions?

Or are we doing the same things "because we've always done it this way"? If Alfred , Michael or the "Elf" told me "we need this house rule" you would have no stronger proponent than I. But there have only been a few times where they have come forward and said "yes there is a problem". NO ONE that I know of disputes these rules. But If I raise these issues , the "Lynch mob" Yells STEVE IS ANTI-HOUSE RULE without hearing a word that I've said.

People please measure your baking dishes. And think about this.

You would have had you read my earlier posts on this thread. There's a full explanation. Don't feel bad about have not read what I wrote earlier. Nobody else is listening to me either. [8|][:(][:D]

I have this wonderful imaginary phone call going around inmy head..."Winston ,how are you!". "Great Franklin and yourself?" "Can't complain. What can I do for you old man?". "I was wondering if I could borrow a couple of USMC carrier type planes in the Pacific , that your not using right now. It seems that several of our carriers had their air groups wiped out and it will be a while till we can train up and equip new ones. It will just be for a short time". "Well , I'd really like to help you , but my political advisors said that to do such a thing is GAMEY", whatever the hell that is, sounds like meat gone bad".

But you loaned us the Wasp TWICE to bring Spitfires to Malta, you gave us 50 old destroyers for some base rights that we'd have given you anyhow". "You rammed through Lendlease violating your own law so that you could send us whatever we need. You let our secret service operate inside your country and even let us open your citizens mail. But you can't loan us a couple of Marine squadrons for a few weeks?" "And what the hell is this "gamey crap?". "If it tastes gamey , take a swallow of brandy and that will fix everything!".

"Sorry my friend I can send you escorts in peacetime. I can break our laws. I can do everything I need. But I can't do "gamey". That wouldn't be right you see. Have a nice day!".[:D] [:D][:D]
