Good point. I suspect the Medieval police - Ye olde Metropolitane Police - advised Knights to etch their name and serial number onto their treasured possessions - swords, shields etc - and these serial numbers would then be stored on the police scrolls - a kind of medieval database if you will.
I suspect this Knight - Sir NDX Oxchwdn was probably Welsh.

My guess it was a soldiers sword going off to the crusades. The cross in front and at the end of his letters. May indicate, symbol for God's glory or God's protection.

Sorry to disappoint you Zap and Joe - but my guess has been proved right.
Apparently some archaeologists were excavating around the site of Ye Old Scotland Yarde found some parchment which they have carbon-dated to "a long time ago" that says:
If anyone be seen the sword of Sir NDX Oxchwdn (No.32 Dunghill Mansions, Glamorgan) then if ye hail Crimestoppers there be a community action rewarde of 50 sheep.
Amazing story.

Feh. Just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, does that make me a king? Supreme power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony.
