I can't get the 2.02 UPDATE to load - HELP! (Windows 7)

Using Firefox or Chrome.

PHASE I

First, go here: MICROSOFT LINK

Install the package linked above.

RESTART.



PHASE II


Next, I'd install the game from scratch.


Next, go here: 2.02 DOWNLOAD Using Firefox or Chrome.

UNZIP that package.

Double click the EXE, let it install.


PHASE III


After it has installed, use Windows Explore to browse to your John Tiller's Campaign Series folder

Locate and select a file named "autorun.exe".

Press the right mouse button and select "Properties".

Click on the "Compatibility" tab.

Tick the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

Tick the option "Run this program as an administrator".

Click on "Apply" and "Ok". Double click on "autorun.exe" for running the program and check if the issue persists.

At this point, it should work. If not....


PHASE IV (Optional)

If it does, enter each of the game folders and repeat the process for each of the game Application files:

For example: East Front.exe, ef.exe, efedit.exe, efmap.exe, eforg.exe.

After this, you should be golden.



NOTE: You can create a short cut to your desktop from East Front.exe (West Front.exe or Rising Sun.exe ) and you can run the game directly from there.

I am trying to download the patch for the update v2.02 but it always seems to stop at 98%. Tried the update function of the game menu, IE and Firefox already. I tried submitting a ticket to the help desk but haven't heard anything from them.

This is what worked for me. For some reason, the install file worked without it but the 2.01 and 2.02 updates would not. Thank you, Jason.

Ok I get vanilla program to load and it is golden! Load update 2.02 menu loads then nothing. Run autorun. Locks up! Look someone did something wrong with update. That is what needs fixing, not having customer chasing all over the Web. I have now chased this for 3 days! Tried various fixes.. if vanilla has no problem then there is an issue with update!

For my .02 worth, Im running Windows 10 Home , and following this steps exactly, the game runs perfect!
I only recently (VERY RELUCTENTLY) gave up Windows 7 Home Premium for Windows 10, and was prograstinating about trying JTCS, but after seeing this, it inspired me to try, and ran perfect first try after following these steps.
Also bear in mind these are not rocket science steps, perfectly logical, and I might have even done everything this way anyway.
My only confusion would have come when looking at the download files page, seeing the 2 different 2.02 updates. I only hope I would have been smart enough to choose the correct file:-). Thank you!

Hello,

Just installed on Windows 11. 1.01 works fine. Changed nothing.
Patch to 2.02 & does not work.
Set compatibilty mode to Windows XP - Run as Admin on .exe files - won't run.
When I run the Rising Sun.exe direct it says it has a side by side config error?

What a bummer, really wanted to play this again.

well the fix was in another thread:

Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package for x86 & it worked.
I also installed thre x64, but I am pretty sure that is not needed.

I am chuffed, cannot wait to play my mate by PBEM!!!
