start in full screen????

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

start in full screen????

Post by budd »

Hi,
Maybe a stupid question because i missed something obvious. I installed the steam version the game always starts in a small window that i need to maximize every time. i don't see anything to start the game in full screen or any resolution choices.

I missed something obvious, didn't I

I've been playing since release.
If there's a way to change that, I have never heard of it.
But oddly, it never bothered me.

not much of a bother at all just haven't run across a game without a start in full screen setting in awhile. No biggy, hitting the maximize button doesn't take too much time[:)] Thx for your response.

You know i forgot about that option, thx. but i installed the game thru steam so that doesn't work with their desktop shortcut unless you know the command line syntax which i don't. I bought from matrix so i could install their version but its not that much of a bother. I did try to make direct desktop shortcuts to the game exe. and auto exe. but they came up with a serial number error. I'm curious about the error so going post in the tech support forum. thanks again.

If you wish to modify the game's exe in Steam it will be in C>Program Files (x86)>Steam>SteamApps>common

Assuming you have Steam installed on your C drive.

Im pretty sure there's also a "open file location" button in the game's properties on Steam. I forget which tab its under. On my phone or I would look.

Right click on the game in Steam and there should be an icon to "Create Desktop Shortcut". You should be able to make your changes there like chemkid showed.

unfortunately, the shortcut created from steam client is an 'Internet Shortcut' - there are no options to start 'maximized'.

BUT, under this location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East

you'll find the 'WarInTheEast.exe' - now, just follow my advice from post #4.

all is good - cheers!

That doesn't work, a serial number error comes up. Other Matrix steam title work like this but WITE doesn't. No biggy to just maximize the window.

Oh, it worked for me. No serial number error. Not sure why it isn't working for you that way...

really no big deal to just maximize the window otherwise i'm having fun learning the game. I've finally decided on the counter and maps i want to use. i'm working my way up the scenario food chain. The road to scenarios are really nice for learning the game, of course i've only played the Minsk one so far, 6 times, twice as the Russians which wasn't terribly exciting.Moving on to Road to Leningrad, onward and upward.

Re: Full screen on the WitE.exe, yep I'm on Steam.

I'm playing like you, doing the Road to... scenarios until I can achieve a major victory. Started like you with Road to Minsk and got the major on the first try. Then moved to Road to Leningrad, and I went Soviet minor, Axis minor, and then Axis major. I'm now on my third go at Road to Dnepropetrovsk after giving up a Soviet major, then getting an Axis minor. This is a tough scenario to achieve all the distant goals without the panzers from AGC as historical. I've taken some steps to be even more aggressive this go, so we'll see if I can get a major this time so I can move on.

Can't see myself ever playing the full campaign, but I will at least play Barbarossa.
