It looks like extra spaces are stripped for some reason. I don't know how to fix that. It's a little cumbersome, but you can take a screen shot of an editor where it does look correct on the screen and post the picture.

All the control codes available can be viewed by clicking on the question mark button next to the Font Size box above where you type in the message.

Let's try this.

    This should be indented.
        And this.

A little copy and paste but it works here but maybe not on some browsers.

"& nbsp;" with-out the space and quotes.

I thought of this about three minutes after I posted. Sorry.

You can also mark a block as code (quote this post to see the makrup).

Code: Select all

 Like this using multiple spaces.
This line with a	tab (but I had to cut & paste from a text editor because the forum editor is more awkward to insert it).

Using code markup is good for pasting in tables.

Thanks.

Can you adjust text size within the code block?

I've tried a couple of ways, no joy.

Inserting Special Characters

Post by Reg »

Another related question is how do you insert special characters that aren't on your keyboard such as º (degrees), ±, µ, etc

Windows assigns a numeric code to different accented letters, other foreign characters and special mathematical symbols. For instance the code for lower case á is 0225, and the code for capital Á is 0193. The ALT key input is used to manually insert these letters and symbols by calling the numeric code assigned to them.

To use the codes:

Place your cursor in the location where you wish to insert a special character.
Activate the numeric key pad on the right of the keyboard by pressing Num Lock (upper right of keyboard). The Num Lock light on the keyboard will indicate that the numeric key pad is on.

NOTE: You must use the numeric key pad; if you use the number keys on the top of the keyboard, the characters will not appear. If you are on a laptop or computer without a separate numeric keypad one of the other methods is recommended.
While pressing down the ALT key, type the four-digit code on the numeric key pad at the right edge of the keyboard. The codes are "case sensitive." For instance, the code for lower-case á is ALT+0225, but capital Á is ALT+0193.

NOTE: If you have the International keyboard activated, you will only be able to input codes with the ALT key on the left side of the keyboard.
Release the ALT key. The character will appear when the ALT key is released.

NOTE: You must include the initial zero in the code. For example to insert á (0225) you must type ALT+0225, NOT ALT+225.

See http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/accents/codealt.html#punc

The Microsoft recommended method....

Open Character Map by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Character Map.

In the Font list, type or select the font you want to use.

Click the special character you want to insert into the document.

Click Select, and then click Copy.

Open your document and position the cursor where you want the special character to appear.

On the Edit menu, click Paste.

See Insert a special character into a document (ASCII codes)

Reg.

Let's see if the instructions from Reg™ work.

I also increased the size to show it better.
