LW 88MM Flak guns in AT role

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Can we attach these guns to Inf and PZ units to have the AT aspect of them work rather than the AA? Do they still have the AA role as well - I would assume so, can someone clarify?

Basically you have already answered your own question.

These are weapons like any other and function like any other. They fire in all phases for which they are eligible to fire. The player need make no distinction (note you already have 88s in your line unit TOE)

I think it's possible to attach AA support units to combat units.
AA guns with AP penetration higher than HE penetration are considered to have AP ammo as primary ammo type during combat, this includes 88 (previously it was hardcoded that only 88 had this bonus).

OK part of my question came about as it says they are AA guns when you bring them up. That's fine expected and thank you.

A nice way (but it takes time) to test the impact of any SU attached to a division, is to set up a test run with the unit(s) of interest detached from any HQ ,air ground support, or reserve activation modifiers (support.) Then run 50-100 attacks and record the each adjusted CV value. Then run the same trial run with the attached SU. You will see the per cent increase. Large number of attacks are needed because of the extreme range of adjusted CV value that the computer generates. Many players still don't appreciate how extreme these adjusted values can be.
WITE is a good addiction with no cure.

I just like to say I got in a huge bitching match with 2by3 about this ( and got banished from forums, whats new), but 2by3 2 patches later gave them more impact and morvael patch in historical impact.

.05 will again make putting them in the front lines even more historical.

On support units in general ( beyond engineers) It would be nice to think that a battalion of say King Tigers with high morale and skill could tip the balance here and there (its a shame units like this do not get kills reported like air units and such). I would also assume that guns like the 88 and indeed the PAK43 88 in an open Steppe situation when the range of the guns really matters would make a big difference even if they are in an attached SU. I am too new to the system to pass judgement but I hope its the case.

Yeah, um, don't look into the black box that is the combat engine.
No one who has tried to open it has ever come back less than completely insane...
(seriously, don't)

Why don't you watch battle resolving with message detail set to 6? After a few hours of watching two divisions battle it out, you should know if your 88mm and Tigers were useful or not :)

I think Denniss and morvael got it figured out and they did not lose their minds

Yeah, but it's like the Elven rings of power with those two.
They're just powerful enough to not lose their minds and to know not to look into the box again.

level #6?

pah, that is for amateurs, for the full experience what you need is to watch 6 Soviet rifle corps attacking 3 German divisions at level #9 resolution ..[8D]
