Time frame (loose) for 1.08.05 Release?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Time frame (loose) for 1.08.05 Release?

Post by heliodorus04 »

I have been offered a PBEM game, and before we start, I wanted to check on the status of the next patch.

My understanding is that it's a significant patch in terms of impact on existing games.
1) Will x.05 require a new game to take full effect?
2) If yes, is it set to release in the next "month" (because we might wait if that's the case)?

Any other information I need to know about it and its impact on existing games?

+1

I just start a game against DTV, and I'm curious about when will arrive the next patch. Need more then 2 month waiting, or arrive in less then 1 month?

Yeah, but when we say it's ready it's up to 2by3 and Matrix to put the patch in their pipeline, allocate resources, determine best launch time etc. so it's impossible to name any ETA from developer's hands to the players.

In addition, it's summertime, and things always take longer during the summer given vacation schedules that often end up delaying things when something has to go through multiple steps from programmer to released product.

Alright, setting release timing aside:

Will .08.05 require a restart for the changes to take effect?
Is it recommended by designers that you restart?

I can roll the dice on release timing, but if the new release does not necessitate restart, there's no gamble involved; we can play without detriment.

As I understand these things & someone correct me if I am wrong .05 will require starting a new game as the new changes will not work in games using 0.3 / 0.4

Most (~80%) changes in code will work for older games. Rest depends on changes made to generic data, so they won't work for older games. The same applies to changes done to scenarios and generic data itself, which are hardcoded in your save once you start the game, so doesn't apply to older games as well. Since .05 comes with pretty big scenario and data changes, I'd say you will be missing ~40-50% of patch content when playing a game started before .05. But that's unavoidable. I started my PBEM on 1.06.28 or something and ended on 1.08.02 (all the time using generic data from 1.06).

No.
Yes.

Purely based on the fact that you will miss significant part of the changes, when playing games started before that version. If you can live with that it's up to you.

Understood.
That's what I needed to know.
Thank you very much (especially about the generic data explanation)

Looking forward to seeing the change log.

Eventually when the Operation Barbarossa guy comes out with the complete Soviet OOB for Jun- 1941 to Dec 1941 will be interesting to see.

He has already done the German side and it looks like solid work most comprehensive OOB to date maybe for the operation.

These books are superb. Too bad they have a different design of TOEs than WitE (in WitE LMGs are part of squads, in the book they are separate; there is no man total given for units, thus it would be hard to find out required number for WitE, one would have to access each source listed), but with some effort they could be used. But main disadvantage is they are only for the 1941 period, whereas for WitE we need such info until 1945...
