Uncommon Valor remake

Post by Solaristics »

I'm not sure how other folks felt about this, but it was a gem (slightly rough, perhaps) of a game. Operational south Pacific in 1942-3 could do with a lot more love!

family? friends? a job? - come on, give it a try!! [:D]

You mean, give life a try without family, friends and a job because it has all been given over to WitP:AE? [;)] Thanks, but I'm looking for a fling with a young UV2, not a life-time commitment to that lady!

I found Uncommon Valor to be a much more playable title precisely because the scope of the map was much smaller and it did not have nearly as much detail as WITP / WITP-AE does, such as Preparation Points, sortie limits on carriers, different Op Modes for land units, and having to muck around with air group altitude bands.

I could see the attraction of a larger scale campaign game which utilized many of the elements of WiTP:AE but with a different land combat system. The larger scale would allow for Guadalcanal to be accurately represented for operational level land combat. Perhaps the naval battle resolution could be enhanced to allow the naval actions to be fought out in a tactical mode (naval air battles as well).

It would be a whole new breed of cat. I could get excited about it.

Just remaking it to incorporate the latest revisions to WiTP:AE wouldn't be justified. You can play a Guadalcanal scenario in WiTP if that's what you want.

Hi Hondo,

I have some fond memories of playing UV as well. WitP/AE is a true classic but difficult as all hell to master. [X(]

Still, some of the smaller scenarios available for it might be a touch more fun than UV. But as you seem to allude to there is also beauty in simplicity.

All it takes is for someone to create the UV scenario in WITP-AE.  The first WITP did have this campaign using only that area of the map.

As others have said, you might better jump to WitP AE directly. And yes, even if you only plan to play only small campaigns.

UV has still a quite big, serious problem. You CANNOT prevent your bombers from flying UNescorted. And as you can guess, if an attack like this happens, you are in big trouble. You get very few reinforcements (especially the Japanese). Your Betties or Nells could very well be slaughtered. Why? Naval Attack mission (NO maximum range option [:(]). So even if your Zeroes are supposed to escort any bombers... they obviously will not do that IF the target is beyond their range... But of course the bombers will proceed, the poor things LOL

And this big issue has disappeared from WitP AE (with some exceptions which try to simulate real life conditions): Maximum Range button thing [8D]
