Refueling issue

Post by charlee22009 »

Hi. How can I stop my CAP aircraft from refueling? I need them desperately to quickly intercept several bogeys, but I cannot get at least one of them to stop refueling.

I can turn off unrep, or try to steer them away manually but it doesn't work. Had to divert the fullbacks to intercept... which is less than ideal.

Playing Iron Hand.

How can I upload the save file? (It says not supported)

I have noticed sometimes that a group of aircraft might have one setting in their doctrine menu, but when you go into individual unit view (key "V") and look at the individual aircraft in that group, their doctrine says something else.

See if the individual aircraft still have UNREP/Refuel set to "always".

I'm not sure if you need several more posts before you can attach files, but also, you can only upload a few file types, put the save in a *.ZIP file and then you can upload it.

Try the 'un-assign', Hotkey 'U'. If they desperately need fuel it won’t help for long.

Thanks, I may try to compress and upload the save later.
What I've started doing is increasing the speed of the tanker to a minimum 400 kts... usually cruise or even mil power in the set mission settings. This way the fighters aren't struggling for airspeed. They can fly 'alongside' the tanker more easily and won't take 5000 hours (!) to refuel.

I try looking at the individual units... and provided it is a realistic simulation it becomes apparent how necessary refueling is. Fighters usually don't have the range to fly very far or long, and regardless of the missiles or radar... fuel means no fuel. No fuel and you crash [:(]

One other thing, make sure your tankers are on a straigt and level course (usualy a support mission) if the tanker is circling around a single point the fighters will have trouble. I usualy just keep the tanker on Loiter and the fighters don't seem to be bothered.

Also, tankers can only refuel 2 Ftrs at a time so try to avoid line ups, each fighter sould only take a few min to top up.

I usually use a support mission with a long rectangular box. Depends on the tanker also? Kc-130 is very slow and, according to an f-4 documentary I just watched, this low airspeed was a problem for jets. With jet takers it became more practical.

Would be nice to set the doctrine refueling levels, like conservative, moderate, risky... something like that. I find my fighters engaging, using all the fuel in burner, and then being engaged from the rear while they're cruising low on fuel to the tankers. A setting to make them more conservative with fuel might be nice.

Also they by default intercept at burner. Any way to change this? An air intercept mission has them save fuel and cruise I believe...
