Eastern Operation:
- Strat bombing continues. 10 HI hits for 3 Betty shot down by flak.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- A big transport TF carrying two divs of the 16th Army left Singapore yesterday and today it was spotted by allied search planes. Destination: Java. Kongo, Haruna, 4 CA and 8 DD will cover the invasion. Air support will be provided by LBA based at Palembang and Singkawang.
- The Dutch airforce is deemd to be no threat at all. Biggest worry is Force Z, which hasn't been seen for a while.

Philippines/Eastern DEI:
- 24th Inf Rgt attacks the Dutch garrison at Tarakan, but only manages to drop forts to 0.
- Lots of allied subs in the Makassar Strait.
- Ternate invaded by a small SNFL detachment. No enemies found.

SE Fleet:
- Invasion of PM is underway. KB, 4 CA, 4 DD and 50 Betties in support.

Burma:
Rangoon seems to be abandoned. 30.000 troops have mysteriously disappeared.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- Kaljdati captured by 390 AV, less than half of the 16th Army's strength. 100 AV was lost at sea, the rest are heading back to Singapore.
- The Kongos crossed the Merak straits at full speed in order to hunt the allied carriers, which were expected to withdraw to Cocos island. They meet "Force Z" which turns out to be a light cruiser TF. After the battle, the Kongos end a few hexes directly east of Cocos, completely unspotted but having failed to engage the enemy CVs.
- The two enemy CVs remain south of Java. 12 subs are hunging them.
- The damaged transports from yesterday continued unloading stuff at Kaljdati, until they were sunk in the morning by carrier attacks.
- The bulk of the transport fleet withdrew towards Singapore, still carrying half the 16th Army.
- Bandjermasin captured.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- The Kongos make a another full speed run towards Java and this time they battle with the two enemy CVs in a series of 5 engagements. Gunnery was a bit poor tbh, I would expect to sink both of them outright, but bad weather and low visibility saved them.
- Lex is later found by a sub, takes 3 torp hits. Fuel storage and ammo storage explode. She is most definitely sunk!
- CA Astoria is hit by a sub and is probably sunk. Three CAs may have been sunk in total in this battle.
- In the morning, Enterprise and the Dutch LBA attack the Kongos. 40 fighters on LRCAP (out of 160 available) fend them off. A couple of bomb hits have no effect.

Great job Nick!! [&o]

I saw your SC TF had both BBs and CA/CLs. I've seen that combo not work out well as sometimes the big guys don't shoot as much or not at all. Did it happen this time or did all participate??

As Allied player I almost always have my CV TF(s) follow a SC TF with a non-aggressive leader to deal with what just happened. Force Z is a good one to use in early war in this area.

Well done! That softens the blow of the ambush to your Java operation.

It will be interesting to see if the Allies remain aggressive after this setback.

Now go get Enterprise!

Michael, The Kongos expended almost 70% of their ammo, so they did fire lots of rounds, but their accuracy was bad. I put that down to reduced visibility due to rain.

If I get Enterprise too that would be awesome! Orders for tomorrow: Kongos to pursuit Big E towards Coco island. Fuel and ammo are low, so my hopes rest on Betties flying from Kaljidati carrying bombs and 12 subs.

Jocke is busy with guests, I don't expect another turn today.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- Enterprise has diasappeared. It seems she escaped to the SE (probably Perth).
- CA Mogami is found by a sub south of Oosthaven and is hit by a torp. Fl damage goes from 22 to 28 only.
- Kongos are disbanded at Oosthaven, because 4 enemy subs are spotted in the Merak straits. ASW and mines are on the way.

Burma:
- Rangoon captured. No sign of the 30.000 allied troops. They weren't evacuated by sea, so they must be in northern Burma.
- Meiktila captured. Jocke is not willing to fight here. Good, I'll take Burma for free, leave the Thai Army to defend against the Burma Div. If Jocke has reinforced, the 15th Army will have to stay as well. If not, it will launch an offensive in Yunan with its two divs.

Jan 14-18, 1942

Resistance inthe DEI stiffens.

Eastern Operation:
- Relatively quiet. Our Netties attack the light industry unsuccesfully.

5th Fleet:
2 Kuri-class DDs tried to raid the allied SLOCs to Alaska. The met with two enemy AMC and were driven away. Also... BB Colorado was encountered briefly.

Western DEI/Malaya:
- Only one base is still held by the Allies and we are steadily push their remnants there. A matter of time before two divs are released.
- The Java campaign is stalled until reinforcements arrive.
- 4 allied DDs raid the Merak straits for two days. Our own DDs happily let them through both times and we lose 4 PBs, 4 CMs and a few other ships.

Eastern DEI:
- Balikpapan captured intact by the 24th Rgt, after a river crossing.
- The landing at Kendari by the 4th Rgt is contested by 3 allied CLs and 5-6 DDs. 40 AV are drowned before our covering cruisers engage the enemy TF. We lose 5 (!) DDs for the sinking of 2 CLs and 1 DD.
- Two days later reinforcements land at Kendari and capture it. CA Houston and CL Boise finally make their appearance, trying to interfere again with the second landing. This time our cruisers engage them. Fires on CA Houston and one of our own DDs.

SE Fleet:
Minor landings at Lunga and Shortlands.

Burma:
Still marching unopposed. Mandalay is captured.

China:
- The mini race into the hex NW of Nanyang ends in a draw, which means all hexsides are open for both of us. This works in my favor and a brigade is currently exploiting the gap in the forests between Ankang and Nanyang, trying to draw more enemy reserves.
- Finally, the 1st Army launches a deliberate attack which doesn't go too badly.
- Wenchow is also assaulted for the first time.

Eastern Operation:
Phase II of the Eastern Operation is about to begin. 4 & 33 Divs are unloading at Hilo and Kona respectively. 21 Div a few days behind. Yes, PH will be invaded by 6 divs on Feb 2! The original plan called for a Jan 1 invasion. Where was all this time lost?
- 3 days from turn 1 mistake
- 5 days resting+loading at Singapore
- at least 10 days from change of course north of PI instead of through them.
- at least 10 days en route. TFs were making 6 hexes a day instead of 10. Something to do with op points I guess. Rabaul was set as a destination.
- plus 3-5 days of resting in Hawaii.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- Reinforcments arrived succesfully in Java. Total AV is now 770.
- All Malaysian base are belong to us! Allied remnants will be completely wiped out tomorrow and two divs will be released (will reinforce Java).
- 18 Div will capture Sabang tomorrow and will then invade Port Blair.

PI/Eastern DEI:
- Cebu, Iolio are secured by 19 Div (recently redeployed from Manchuria).
- Further advances are put on hold temporarily until the reinforcment Java is complete.

China:
- The hex north of Ichang is attacked twice. Success is very close, despite 200 disabled squads.
- Several Chinese enter the hex directly west of Ichang, which is open terrain, and are attacked by air. Many disabelments. Two divs will cross the river tomorrow.
- The Chinese roadblock to Ankang is slowly grinded down.
- Chinese reinforcements are spotted heading to the contested area from Changsha, Sian and Kienko, which was one of the goals of this offensive.

China:
- Three deliberate attacks, two of them go well and 5 Chinese corps' are mauled. The first one is directly north Ichang. The reatreating units are now on the mountain hex north of Ichang and will be pursued by 2 divs. Another 2 divs will be left to defend Ichang itself and the hex north of it.
- The river crossing west of Ichang served its purpose and the 2 divs involved will redeploy to the 1st Army sector (Ankang road).
- On the road to Ankang things don't go so well. Further advances are impossible without reinforcements, which will arrive in the form of 3 divs from Ichang. We'll exploit our superior interior lines to redeploy faster than the enemy. Already a great number of enemy forces are tied up in the forests and will need weeks to get back on the road network.
- A secondary advance by the 12th Army (1400 AV) on the primary Nanyang-Sian road is planned. That will leave the right flank completely undefended, but I doubt Jocke will venture into open hexes again, after what has just happened. I mean 150 bombers are enough to defend the right flank on their own.

Invasion of Pearl Harbor

Post by Olorin »

Jan 24-29, 1942

China:
- After our recent victories, it's now become a race to cross the river two hexes north of Ichang. The enemy stack trying to cover the gap is bombed daily.
- The other gap (between Ankang & Nanyang) was covered by severl enemy units.
- 6 divs in transition phase. Will be in position to attack in about a week.

Burma:
- A lone tank regiment entered northern Burma. There are enemy unit at Katha.
- Lashio has a 12k garrison. Imperial Div (Rangoon) is ordered to clear it.

Malaya/Western DEI:
- 18 Div takes Sabang. Padang the only base left to the Ducth in Sumatra. Will be taken by SNFL.
- Allied resistance in Malaya officialy ends. Two divs will reinforce Java.
- Just entered Batavia two divs and will bombard to ascertain enemy strength.

PI/Eastern DEI:
- 19 Div is mopping up Mindanao and the rest of the minor PI.
- No progress after Kendari was captured. Bringing forward LBA and an air HQ. This theater needs more assets, but we 'll opportunistically invade Ambon and Koepang with what we have.
- 25 Minekaze-class APDs recently arrived and will be used for this purpose.

SE Fleet:
- Horn Island and Merauke captured by 90th Inf Rgt. Covered only by 4 CAs but since KB had not been revealed at the time, Jocke wouldn't try anything funny.
- Two enemy BBs spotted near Luganville heading north.
- Rabaul expands airfield to size 6. Air forces are: 40 Zeros & 27 Betties.

Eastern Operation:
- PH is finally indaved, 28 days later than originally planned.
- The beachhead is 2300 AV strong and in relatively good condition. Ironically the only division with 100% prep was the one to be disrupted the most(65). Disablements are acceptable.
- Losses to CD guns and mines: 7 DMS & 20 AMc trying to clear mines, about 30 10 knot xAKL and a couple of AMC.
- BB Fuso hits a mine (29 fl dmg).
- KB launches a port attack and hits the two remaining BBs pretty hard. Was hoping to get the 5 subs also in port, but they were shielded by the BBs.
- Will probably need 4-5 days to consolidate the beachhead. Ise, Hyuga & Yamashiro will conduct daily bombardments.

Feb 1-2, 1042

Eastern Operation:
- Two days of strat bombing by KB. Recon is bad and I can't ascertain the effectiveness of it.
- Made a mistake in the PH landing. Forgot to include two fully prepped HQs. They will need another 3 days to land. One of them is the 14th Army HQ and the other one the 4th Fleet, which is listed as a command HQ. Can anyone pls confirm it's indeed a command HQ?

5th Fleet:
- BB Warspite is possibly sunk near Vancouver island. A sub found her and put 4 torpedoes into her. 2 Walruses are listed as destroyed on ground and the VP count for sunk ships was just increased by ~200.
- The build up continues. Forts are being built and Umnak island will be our main airbase inthe Aleutians. After Pearl falls, Alaska will receive some attention.

Burma:
- Supply refuses to flow to Burma and a TF is ordered to carry supplies by sea. Until they arrive, the advance into northern Burma is put on hold.

Western DEI:
- Makassar captured by the 24th Inf Rgt.
- Boise was spotted by a sub near Darwin. 8 destroyers attacked by Nells near Denpassar, no hits.

I pulled up this scenario and see Japan has four mobile Command HQs - 4th Fleet, 5th Fleet, SE Fleet, and Southern Army.
