How good is the AI?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

How good is the AI?

Post by schmolywar »

So Im axis in the italian campaign. Its late september and Im still able to hold the allied forces in sicily on normal.

Does the AI attempt amphibious landings at this point in an attempt to break any stalemate?

Yes, it should launch other invasions. At times, we've had problems with the AI in some of the smaller scenarios invading as well as it does in the campaign game (although we've also had cases in the campaign game where it gets thrown off track, but we've addressed those that we know of). What version are you playing? If you get past October and it hasn't invaded somewhere (Corsica, Sardinia or Italy), it could be a problem. You can always post a start of Allied turn autosave or email it to 2by3@2by3games.com and we'll take a look and see if the AI looks like it's preparing for an invasion or if it got confused.

BTW, this is true for anyone that has a game where they think the Allied AI has gone to sleep and isn't invading (anywere other than Sicily in late 43 or Northern Europe in summer of 44).
All understanding comes after the fact.

The Allied AI in MTO is much improved since early Beta. Invasions aren't predictable in timing or place. The 43 invasions by Rome have caught me off guard.
