Soviet Combat bonus - need it explained please

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Soviet Combat bonus - need it explained please

Post by shane56 »

g'day,
have scanned for info on the Soviet Combat bonus which is on the game options screen, and can not find a clear explanation on it..

If you choose "NONE" what does that do ?
if you choose "DEFENCE+1" what does that do ?
if you choose "ATTACK+1" what does that do ?

thanks for any info

Attack +1 is the original rule as explained in the manual. Till the end of February'42 Soviet attacks need only 1.00 to 1 odds (or better) to win (instead of the usual 2.00:1). Defense +1 is a reverted rule, where German odds are reduced by 1, so they need at least 3.00:1 to win in this period. None is no odds modifiers apply.

thanks for the reply,
does this mean that the bonus modifiers only apply from the beginning of 1941 campaign till end of feb'42 and no further ?

Would these soviet combat bonus modifiers cancel out to some degree the reduced blizzard effect if it were chosen ?

My guess in no interaction between weather (any) and combat bonus for sov. The bonus is there or not there depending on the game set- up, and that's all there is to it. lol.
