A discussion on another forum lead to this conclusion:

War in the Pacific... remade to be a space 4x-ish game. Hex map. The Ocean is Space. Islands are moons/planets. Ships are spaceships, troops are troops. The freedom to create a totally novel scenario/set of scenarios off the core game concepts.

Sounds interesting. Makes me think a boardgame style Starship Troopers would be nice too.

Lords of the Realm 2!

Heh! I used to play the hell out of that. Would kind of like to see a Win 7 and above version.

AoR.
Look at it this way - no Steel Panthers remake could ever live up to expectations. [;)]

Carrier strike south pacific

Which is easy to do as its already been done. WITP and WITP AE is basically the same .
Just the combat engine and not the micro-micro-micro management game.

if teh SP WAW name can be rightly mentioned many times, then i must also mentioned again

SSI's Battles of Napoleon - all it needs would be just a facelift on the graphics, sound and UI and it would be right to go!

also Wargamer: Napoleon 1813

and Strategy Firsts Austerlitz: Napoleons Greatest Victory

here is a new one though:

Horse and Musket: The Battles of Frederick the Great

Star General (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_General) was unfortunately on the 'rubbish' end of the old SSI general series but the premise was awesome. Maybe one day Lordz will do a spiritual remake of that (I'd accept a 40k theme).
