Olorin-
I can't comment much on your AAR as I am reading Joc's too.
But, this is going to be great fun following both of you as each of you try to out guess the other, express your fears and victories.
Wishing both of you a long and fun war.
Regards,
-Terry

Jocke is out of town which means I can keep the turn a bit longer and complete my R&D program. Couldn't do that in T1 as most bases lacked supply.

RE: Olorin [J] vs JocMeister [A]
T2 ws just sent to Jocke. The reply will probably take a few days to arrive.
My R&D program is not yet complete, but I can say that total R&D costs will be around 2.5-3m tons of supplies. The aim is to produce 2500-3000 aircraft a month by mid-late 1944, which is only 150-650 higher than the historical figures.
More details after T3.

Jocke tells me the "synch bug" appeared in the first turn already and asked me to send my combatreport.txt file. I'm a bit reluctant because I think the report is subject to FOW and it's different for Japan and the Allies anyway. Am I right?

When we were playing we had a bunch of these too, and at first I had thought it had FOW. It does not. The CR is the same for both based on the Japanese replay. The Allied CR is different only if there is a sync bug.
So it's good practice to send these with the turn so the Allied player knows whether there is a bug on the turn or not.
Also, to reduce these, I close the program between turns and restart the computer often. It's too bad we have to worry about these, but it's just the way it is.

RE: Olorin [J] vs JocMeister [A]
Thanks obvert, this seems to be the general feeling in the forums as well, after a bit of searching that I did.
I'll be sending the combatreport.txt file from now on.
Now, let's hope I get T2 back before Jocke leaves for the weekend. [8D]

RE: Olorin [J] vs JocMeister [A]
Base on my experience, combatreport.txt it is subject to FOW filter. However it is the same filter for both side, the no filter for Allies player and Japan player. So both reports are inaccurate in the exactly same way. For example you will see many time torpedo or bomb hit on ship just to notice that ship was not hit at all, after loading turn, but those hits are in both combatreport.txt. Generally it seems to me FOW filter is just show what yours/yours opponents pilots, captains and admirals are reporting back after combat. I just hope that you can get my point even with my English skills.
RE: Olorin [J] vs JocMeister [A]
Your english is perfectly fine, I get what you're saying.
Another confirmation then. Glad I was wrong, this is a useful way to circumvent the sync bug when we encounter it.

Great explanation! Yes, that's it.
MrKane, your English by the way is improving a lot! I've noticed changes the more you're here. I've seen this in several long-time AE players. An AAR is a great language practice and proven to improve your vocabulary and grammar. [:)]
Maybe I need to write one in French! [:D]

Pearl Harbnor:
- KB stayed for a second day and launched an afternoon strike. Only 3 of 5 Zero sentais escorted, against a 100 strong CAP. Lost 5 Zeros and 30 bombers for minimal returns. Only bombs were used, because I have a feeling I'm going to need the torpedoes really soon.
- Midway captured in the evening by SNFL elements, after a morning bombardment by a CL and 6 DDs. 14 Mavis and 9 Betty move to Midway.
Aleutians:
Three amphibious TFs are in position to attack Cold Bay, Dutch Harbor and Adak island tomorrow. Two of them are spotted for the first time.
Malaya:
- Landing at Mersing proceeds as planned, 2000 AV are ashore. Only a DM and a PG interfere, no sign of Force Z. An xAK is sunk by a dutch sub. A minefield is encountered, a SC hits a mine and sinks.
- 3rd Air Div fends off all allied naval strikes. 5 Bufallos shot down by another Zero sweep over Singapore. 125 army bombers attack Kota Bharu garrison.
- Kota Bharu doesn't fall, despite the air close support. Forts drop by 1 however. Tomorrow it will be captured.
Philippines:
- Two Netty naval strikes at Manila sink 2 enemy transports for the loss of 8 planes.
- The planned attack against the Manila airbase fails to launch. A mystery.
- A TF carrying two SNFL units will land at Jolo tomorrow, escorted by 5 CAs, 3 CLs & 13 DDs.
- Ryujo & Hosho sink 3 enemy transports near Zamboanga.
- Kaga makes a full speed run from Singkawang to North Borneo area in order to merge with the Ryujo TF and support the Jolo invasion tomorrow. In the process, Kaga attacked a small allied DD TF based at Tarakan. No hits.

Are you planning to pick up where Panzeryaeger Hortland left off in the North?

Sounds like some moves I'm facing vs John 3rd. Midway is a pain in ass as he has an AS there and subs off USA. [:(]

Something like that, yeah! That match up is still one of my favorites, shame it didn't last long. I believe the next 2-3 turns will spell out my intent very clearly!

Also, Midway together with Dutch Harbor would make it very difficult for the Allies to send their subs around Japan, no? I don't know their range, but I'd imagine they would operate at their limit.

Good choice to grab Midway and the Aleutians early

My blockade of Japan vs you was mainly from Adak with size 7 port, 3 ARs, and 3x 3000 capacity ARDs to repair all but the most heavily damaged subs.
