I have lots of base forces at the two southernmost inshore bases in India, and they're getting hardly any supply. All the big costal bases have supply ranging from 40k to 90k. Cochin and Madras are practically across the street. I've maxed the request at any empty intervening locations.

And there is the problem. 40-90k supply for "big" bases is not very much supply at all. Which is why supply isn't going to the front; the big bases want to keep the limited supply they have. There is only one solution: more supply convoys from Cape Town. Luckily that should be easy enough to accomplish.

Anyway, if you give us some supply totals across India from base to base that should really help settle if the issue is simply not enough supply on the continent as a whole.

I agree with Sangeli.

You should have multiple convoys of 12-24 xAKs each set up as CS convoys shipping supply from EC, LA and CT to all points.

If you do the same on a slightly smaller scale with tankers particularly from EC to CT then from CT to onboard you will never run dry.

Continuous Supply convoys are the way to go.

Once the liberty ships start rolling in CS convoys of 20-30 of them can keep the entire world supplied.

Establishing a logistics infrastructure is essential.

To clarify my "lots of troops" suggestion - a few BFs will not do it - I am thinking two divisions or so. In my game a lot of Indian units were arriving at Madras and it had most of India's supply. I moved a bunch to Bombay to defend there and, voilà, suddenly most of the supply accumulated at Bombay. It was not HQ effect - I didn't move any of them and the Indian national HQ was far away - 9 hexes from Calcutta (Ranchi?).

While not continuous (transit time), I do have convoys rolling.  A big one is enroute back to Cape Town, having dumped more supply in.  I've also diverted 40+ xAK I had a San Francisco to Cape Town.  I had been hoarding them, but it turns out I can get by on less in the Pacific.  I've also been converting plenty to xAPs.

Supply is generally something I take particular care with -- hence the 250k my Suva defenders are sitting on.  I try to keep Pearl Harbor at >= 500k in fuel and supply.  I also send the occasional big convoy to Australia -- fuel and supply.  A big fuel convoy just left Sydney, and another big one is about to land at Melbourne.  Even my big Aleutian bases are at least 50k in fuel and supply.  I generally have this down pat, but India has been an unexpected drain.  The three week transit times from Cape Town doesn't help matters.  I never use auto-convoy, as I usually have to deal with routing issues -- especially with Noumea in Japanese hands.

I have two divisions enroute to one of these bases.  I'll spread them around to cover both.

This game has played quite "differently" from any other one in the past.  If the Japanese hadn't invaded, there would probably be no issue.  I don't remember how much industry Calcutta had, but it must have been a goodly amount.  If I take anything from this, I'll be better prepared, if I live long enough to play a next game.

My carriers will be inactive for awhile in Sydney.  The big three are all in the middle of finishing their conversion to the F6F, and I'm eating up the pool doing it.  A month from now, they'll be complete as well as some of the CVEs.  I'll probably have a squadron of SB2Cs by that time as well.

Ya, I see it now. There's just not enough supply in the Indian bases. Are you using xAKs to ship fuel? If so you should stop cause you need them for supply. Especially to India. Right now you have nearly 1.5 million fuel in Karachi but you have no bases in India with even 100k supply.

I've halted fuel shipments.  Abadan and Aden are at the 10,000 range for supplies, so that's halted right now.  I've transferred many of the Abadan xAKs to Cape Town.

I just figured, even with these supply totals, some of it would get dispersed.  Apparently, I need more overkill the main ports.  I don't think Tracker itemizes consumption, which would be helpful.

I can probably get a few hundred thousand over in the next month.  I was hoping removing the US forces would lower demand a bit.

My RN surface forces have been meeting the big ones showing up from Cape town, as he occasionally uses surface raiders in the far west.

I think Australia is in good shape fuel and supply-wise for now, with three big fuel/supply convoys having unloaded or about to unload.  One was from Cape Town, the others from the US.  If I can get India up to snuff, I'll probably kick off a good air campaign.  I'm pretty overstocked in combat planes there right now.  Heavy bombers have been slow to repair, probably due to supplies at the interior bases.  I rotate problem units to Bombay from time to time.  My Corsairs can reach Colombo, which has been nice at that front.  It'll get better when they can use drop tanks.  I don't know if I have to wait for -1As or if the -1s get this later.

My one RN carrier (Victorious?) should reach Pearl within the next few weeks.  I haven't looked at future UK production, but I'm guessing F4Us for them are a ways out yet.  At least November, according to Wiki.  When I take on KB, she can serve as a target.

I'm not sure I want to send anything south of Pearl at this point. My intrepid VP squadron at Suva failed to pick them up. I've put the two B-24 squadrons there on search now also. I have three SBD squadrons ready there also. One good point is that most of the cargo is unloading from the messed up ships. I've sent a pair of battleships from Pearl to hang out east of Suva a bit. These are good assault transports and their losses hurt.

I got a good strike on Colombo.

I wonder how well these two can recover from the fires. They took a lot of hits and a good part of their secondary armament got smacked in the process. Against usual convention, I'm hitting them again next turn. Maybe both these battleships will burn out.

I'm very surprised Cannonfodder left those ships vulnerable to a big strike in Columbo. That seems uncharacteristic of him.

Given the varying ship types I would guess they had been damaged in previous battles and were trying to take advantage of the shipyards.

Usually 30+ bomb hits will result in a Japanese BB at sea burning up. In port in Columbo, I don't know how well they can suppress the fires but the ships cannot be docked until the fires are out, so port help is limited. I say 75% chance the BBs will sink. Good show![&o]

Going by his joke on the model thread, it's possible Fuso may have bought it.  Nothing like a massive napalm strike on his ships.  [:D]

It just turned out Cochin is the best base for this right now, being decently supplied and close.  I was ready to pull out in case of bombardments, but I'm probably safe for now.

My Corsairs and late model 38s are starting to get run down.  The 38Es are still full strength.  The Lightning sweeps before the bombers seems like the right move, with Corsairs escorting.  Most of the bombers are heavy enough to deal with fighters, too.  The way is generally paved for the later straggling B-25s and B-26s.

I'm giving his port one more hit.  I'll have to decide whether to start an airbase campaign on Colombo after this.  If I can shut them down, that opens the door to a battleship visit later on.  More dockyard hits would be a good thing too.  I was pleased to see a few of those.  I can't remember what Colombo starts out with for drydock space.

What's really helped is the weather. I've had weeks on end of thunderstorms up to this point.

IIRC Colombo is something 40 shipyard.

Just enough to handle the British BBs but not much more.

Nicely done! I was very wrong when I said that level bombers carrying 500 lb bombs couldn't sink a Japanese BB. But I never thought it would be possible to put ~50 bombs in two different BBs in a single day! Absolutely incredible! And it also looks like you got 2 CLs. I'll have to keep this tactic in mind for my own game. It seems that it is a very bad idea to ever disband a BB within Allied 4E range. Had that fleet been a TF outside the port those BBs would likely just have had a few scratches; the accuracy in port bombing for level bombers is at least 15x naval strike accuracy from my experience (~30% vs 2%).

Anyway, I think that it may be past time to organize an invasion of Ceylon now that you have taken proper steps to correct the supply situation. Be sure the build up bases as close to Ceylon as possible. You will need LBA CAP to make an invasion happen. As long as the KB is somewhere else you can pull it off.

I have sunk the Musashi class ships with 25-30 thousand pounders.

Even enough 500 pounders will accumulate sufficient fire and system damage to "sink" a BB without ever getting a penetrating hit.

Ships disbanded in port seem extremely vulnerable to hits with the frequency far exceeding that of a ship in a TF.

Pretty much a bad idea to disband any ship type in range of sufficient enemy airpower to be able to penetrate your CAP.

One of his subs ate two bombs, which pleases me also.

I'll take any good VPs I can get.

I've been considering a landing there.  The issue is that it will take some time to arrange the personnel transports.  I can most likely shut down his air with a determined bombing campaign.  Ceylon is quite a ways off from his other bases in India, so isolating it wouldn't be too difficult.  Bear in mind, I have lots of air present in India.  I'd like to get the numbers beefed up a bit first, so rest and recuperation will be in order.  I'm guessing he has at least three divisions present.  He was pretty heavy with the landings at the time, and I don't know if any have departed since then.  I'll consult da monkey to see what's listed.  Hopefully, there's plenty of intel for there.  I've been reconning Colombo for awhile now, too, as I have some longer ranged recon assets.  Trincomalee seems to have been abandoned by air and naval forces after my raids there.  It helps that my bombers have had a lot of time to train, too.

I have several more partially filled bomber units.  I didn't even use my two Wellington squadrons in this, nor my two Vengeance squadrons.  To be honest I'd never use dive bombers in a base attack.  In my Japanese game, KB lost a dozen Vals hitting Colombo last turn -- all flak.  If I invade, I can probably round up a good 4-5 infantry divisions plus armor and artillery.  I have interior bases at the tip populated by base forces, but supplies don't want to flow yet.  Per a previous suggestion, some combat units are there too, but are having no impact.  Taking Ceylon can reverse the de-nutting the RN has suffered thus far.

If I managed one goal, it's that I won Sangeli's approval in something.  [8D]

Losses are getting stiff at this point as a result of my fighters wearing down. I've transferred the mob to Bombay for recovery. I've also brought in a couple fresh bomb squadrons as well as some of the lesser fighter squadrons, in case he decides to retaliate.

The intel screen shows me as sinking Yamato at Colombo, which is a laugh, since she was ravaging Suva not long ago. I guess with the battleships torched, that opened the door for everyone else to take their hits. No sign of these two battleships, and my PBYs don't see anything trying to flee. I'm pretty confident they're both dead at this point. I'll take several weeks to recover, and give the airfield(s) on Ceylon my full attention.

Elsewhere, base forces are unloading at Savaii and Ta'u. Two cargo TFs are loading at Pearl for these two to make sure they have enough to build with.
