Chit view broken (1.04b)

Post by HeinzHarald »

Disclaimer: I did a fresh install on my gaming PC (as opposed to my Surface Pro 2) and updated to 1.04b directly so I don't know if chits work with any other version on this computer.

I've tried:
-a few different scenarios
-restarting the game
-toggling back and forth between chit/unit view
-zooming all the way in and out
-setting compatibility to Windows 7
-reinstalling 1.04b
-installing 1.02 and then 1.04b (in case 1.04b wasn't actually comprehensive)

It's the same no matter what I try. I've attached an example from Blackburn's Ford.

I'm on Win 8.1 x64 with a GTX970 at 1920x1080 (all nVidia settings at default).

Edit: btw, unit view is fine, it's only chits that's broken.

Strange. Is anyone else seeing this?

Now I've also tried:
-uninstalling ACDSee (the only image related program I had installed)
-setting all drawing options to off
-using alt+tab to go back and forth
-disabling programs that autostart with Windows, which was very few to begin with

No change so far.

The only "out of the ordinary" thing left with my setup that I can come to think of it that it's hooked up to an HDTV rather than a monitor. It's a pretty lean gaming machine that mainly has drivers and games installed.

FYI,

I have installed the original (1.0), followed by 1.01 and 1.02 updates, then 1.03Beta, and finally 1.04beta and have not experienced the 'chit effect' observed herein.

Maybe the beta 1.03 would be the answer. I don't have the beta 1.03 and don't think it's available anymore

I've alerted Eric to this issue. Thanks for reporting it.

His initial thought was a corrupt installation of the new patch, but if there has been some reinstallation and the problem is still there that looks less likely. Though if the zip file was corrupted that could be the problem. So if you want to spend even more time on this, you could try redownloading. Otherwise, let's see what Eric says.

It seems you somehow have the old chit graphic file(s). Perhaps these didn't update properly. Would you mind terribly checking the specs on these files?

Gfx\Hexwar\UsaCounters.pcx, should be 421 KB, date April 1, 2015
Gfx\Hexwar\CsaCounters.pcx, should be 409 KB, date April 1, 2015

I'll check to see whether the 1.0.4 installer has these files properly.

Just checked. The ones I have are from 2014-07-22 and 2014-07-18, at 100KB and 104KB.

Aha, those are the old files. Does anyone who applied the 1.0.4 patch directly to the 1.0.0 version of the game have the correct files and properly working chit graphics?

this doesn't answer your question, but I have v1.03Beta installed and the date that I have for those two files is 4-29-2015.

I've saved them in temp and I'm getting ready to install 1.04bbeta

EDIT: After installing 1.04beta, the dates for those two files are still 4-29-2015.

Hello Everyone,

Due to an unfortunate compression error some of the files in the 1.04Beta update were being skipped over. I have uploaded a new installer that should fix this problem. It is the same name so please re-download and use the installer. Please let us know if you have any further issues.

Cheers,
Gerry

Installing the new 1.0.4b on top of my current installation fixed it for me as well, thank you.

I just updated from v1.01 to v1.02 today. The colors on the chits no longer being displayed. As noted in the string of e-mails above, I do not have the current files csacounter.pcx and usacounter.pcx. Are these two files needed for v1.02?

There ought to be CsaCounter.pcx and UsaCounter.pcx files even in V1.0.2. Is it all chits not displaying colors or just some of them?

I just installed 1.04 beta dated 5/11.

I've been playing Wilson Creek scenario as Union for 2 games now. I've seen no echelon colors for Union troops in either game using chit counters. I see colors for the Confederate side, but not Union. I've toggled echelon colors ON and OFF. The Union never shows colors.

I am running v1.02.

The Union chits are not displaying no colors in the center with a blue background.

I have CsaCounters.pcx dated 22 Jul 14 and UsaCounters.pcx dated 18 Jul 14

How do I upload a saved file for your analysis?
