Note - John and I know each other well, so it will be who can go against norms and make the other pay for it. For now, its not me. [:D]

Huh. Sounds like you're doing well enough. Hitting any of the invasions or invasion shipping hurts Japan at this stage as you know. If you throw off the schedule for a certain base or area, it has a ripple throughout the rest of the SRA. You're only goal is to slow things and take a tithe against his conquests. You're seemingly doing a good job of that.

After reading a bit about this part of the war your Manado strike is really similar to a few B-17 hits on Japanese shipping parked forward ready for the next invasion. The accounts stated that early on there was no CAP up in bases like Davao but huge fleets of Japanese invasion shipping tied together and easy pickings even from height for the fortress crews.

Back to normal style updates, but with two day intervals

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; f = fuel hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft; If odds are bold, they are the Allies; BG = Bomber Group of 48 planes (4 x 12 bomber squadrons); FG fighter group = 25 fighter planes if American

Landings: none

CVs:
Japan -
KB-1: I think she is operating east of Marshalls
KB-2: depleted after failed 2nd attack on Pearl, has gone back to Kwajalien and/or Truk to replenish and fill out air groups
KB-3: last seen moving west along northern shores of New Guinea; maybe went to Truk
KB-4: still operating out of CRB area
CVEs: supported Midway invasion, just spotted 8 east of Midway going to?? Maybe to try raiding shipping moving to and from Hawaii

Allies -
Death Star (DS) - CVs Lexington & Enterprise; CVLs Charlotte, Jacksonville, Wellington, Melbourne are leaving Darwin after drinking up the last fuel there. Heading west to met Force Z and CVL Hermes that is nearing Cocos Island after repairs.
CV Saratoga - at Vancouver replenishing (Seattle is still suffering to maintain adequate supplies and fuel as American economy has about 1/2 of it disabled/damaged). CV Yorktown and CVL King's Mountain will join her in NoPac

Subs:
Gudgeon misses transports at Christmas Island (Line Island group)

Surface Action:
Night Time Surface Combat, near Koepang at 68,116, Range 8,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Fumizuki
DD Nagatsuki
DD Harukaze, Shell hits 1
DD Hatakaze, Shell hits 2, heavy fires

Allied Ships
CL Marblehead
CL Boise
DD Barker
DD Bulmer
DD John D. Edwards
DD John D. Ford
CL Dallas
DD John Barry
DD Mayrant
DD Stockton

Maximum visibility in Overcast Conditions and 32% moonlight: 8,000 yards

I was hoping for better results, but Japan still owns the night.

India: - troops moving to positions in preparations for possible invasion in early '42. Most of the airgroups from Malaya are now safely here resting, filling out, and starting to train pilots.

Burma: - no troops left below Toungoo

Malaya:
Singapore - forts will never get above 2 and my limited Assault Value is 417 with daily bombings (newest version of BTS Lite now has a small battalion in each of the newer bases from DBB to make para drops less likely).
Port Swettenham - 11th Indian ID escape route to Kuala Lumpur now open as small battalion crossed over while troops are bombed
Temuloh -

China: Cease Fire until January '42 except for Hong Kong

Philippines: empty Laoag changes hands
Manila - about 30 bombers keep me from building any forts; most troops have retreated here.
Clark - just over 10 Sally hit the nearly empty base
Bataan - nuisance raid of just 8 Lily; 2x PBY groups flying troops out to Jolo
Cebu -
Cagayan - 8 Lily support his troops (1st Kure Assault Division & 8th Tank); failed attack 60:84

Borneo:

Sumatra:

Java:
Merak -
Batavia - sweeps of empty skies by 12 Zeros to be followed by small strikes of Nell and Betty to hit the small warships. 1 HDML sunk.

SRA:
Ambon - small sweep by Zeros
Kendari - small sweep by Zeros

New Guinea/Solomons:

Central Pacific:

South Pacific:
Nuka Hiva - Unfortunately, I'm using the bases in the Marquesas Island group again. [:(] The first time was in my brief game vs Big Bad Wolf using RA mod before he went MIA last May. This base now has 3 AVDs supplying 18 Aviation Support for a small PBY group (6 planes). Meanwhile, 3 of 5 TF worth of empty transports are south of these islands headed for Panama and eventually USA. Better to be safe than feed John's ego when it comes to sinking transports. [:D]

North Pacific: CV Saratoga back to Vancouver for replenishment.

Australia: 31 B-17s from 7th BG have made it into Sydney via Pago Pago and Auckland. If Pago Pago falls, then this air bridge for the 4e bombers will be cut off.

Engineers:

Intel:

Notes/Plans:
I'm going to try to go through each theater with screen shots and comments to show what has and may happen. First up...
Malaya - John was aggressive with his 1st Raiding Rgt from day 1 to be followed up by multiple division landing at Mersing. This prevented the reformed 11th Indian Division from getting into Singapore and forming the main resistance there. I don't think I can hold into '42. [:(]

Notes/Plans:
I'm going to try to go through each theater with screen shots and comments to show what has and may happen. Fifth up....
North China: I was able to move back from the plain to the woods, rough, and jungle hexes. If I did one thing wrong it was around Yenan. But, I think I have enough there to hold. BFs from up north will leap frog each other to get the short legged fighters down to Lanchow and beyond.

Meanwhile, what appears to be the remaining Japanese flattops are spotted east of Ternate. The question for me is what bases have Air HQs to project his Nells and Bettys. I would say Palembang as I've seen 75 of them at Batavia. See screen shot.

KB - seems to be headed for someplace in California from San Fran to San Diego.

USA - Seattle now has 230 fighters while Tacoma has 75. CVL King's Mtn is there repairing while CV Sara and Yorktown get rid of minor system damage. Part of me hopes that the successful sub attack off Victoria tempts John to try to sink those CVs. He probably has a glen equipped sub off coast. Loaded TKs and AOs ran from LA to safety of Panama.

Torpedo hits, from Devastators in Jan/42 ?! Yeah, I know there were 12 Swordfish but they would have found the flak pretty daunting.

I would have sent the Swordfish in with torpedoes. I have always had great success with them, especially in this case with no enemy fighters present although this Japanese TF is a a little bigger than I normally see.

I didn't get a turn back from John yet. Somehow I messed up with two SC TF that were to end their turn at Tarakan. My new orders have the two American BCs with 8 DDs and a newly formed TF with 4 CAs and 6 DDs both bombarding the base. If any planes were flown in, they will be damaged and hopefully those 16" guns can find any damaged CAs. If not, then DS planes will have a chance in the PM phase as they move one hex closer. Force Z will move to join the CV/CVLs and the 3 American CLs will stand guard outside the base.
