Transferring support units East

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Transferring support units East

Post by sven6345789 »

How do you do that? 23.2.2 states how you transfer ground units and air units. My guess is you load up an HQ and send the HQ East. Correct?

Hello

Ground Units and HQ´s:
Move a unit to Konigsberg, Warsaw, Krakow,Budapest or Bucharest. It should not in the rail mode. Than a button shows up at the unit: "send east". Click it.

Air units:
Air units may be transferred to the East Front using the air transfer mode (F10). And than just right click to a soviet controlled hex.

Do Support Units like artillery or Tank destroyer battalions attached to the HQ also go east if the HQ goes East?

No, but even if you could, that's a waste of APs, spending 1 on sending a small unit like that

Well, what happens to them? Just tried it. Moved a corps HQ East 2 art. Battalions attached. They have vanished. Can't find them on map. Can't find them in the EF box.
A) what happens to support units attached to an HQ you move East?
B) how do you move support units East ( even if it is a waste of APs)?

AFAIK, we didn't set up a system for support units to move east. If they are disappearing from HQs that are moving East and don't show up by the next turn, then that's a bug.

Actually the HQ also vanished. Was the 81st Corps. On map Units are still attached to it. If I click on find HQ in the unit tab the map takes me to the outer Hebrides. Doesn't show up in the EF box either.
Made a test with the 1st SS panzer corps without attached units. Worked fine without problems.is in the EF box now.

Do you have a save just before moving an HQ East that disappears? That would help a lot. Please post here or email to 2by3@2by3games.com. Thanks.

Finally found the HQ in the list. Searched in the wrong spot. So, HQ did arrive but support units seem to be gone. Will try to reproduce this tomorrow and send a save ( didn't bother to save now, sorry).

Now that is interesting. Pulled the 81st Corps out of the EF box and guess what. The missing support units are still attached.
If you move an HQ to the EF box with support units still attached, they remain attached but do not appear in the EF box list. They do not seem to count to the combat value either. if you transfer the HQ back to the west they are available again.
