How to use Beaufighters
How do you all use Beaufighters in AE?
As fighters or as bombers? What has worked for you?

The nightfighters are the best mid-war nightfighters in the game.

I use Beaufighters exclusively in low altitude antiship role.
I made exceptional effort to understand why one would try to deny existing fact and disclaim well documented history. I failed.

+1 NFs (for the NF variant only)
For daytime ops;
I train to a low (50-60s) level in Air2Air for backup up use as CAP or LCAP. Best used over bases further behind lines your IJ opponent may try to sneak in a long range attack on. Never use for Sweep.
After I get pilots to a reasonable A2A skill level start building Low Ground and Nav skills.
You'll want the CAP depth earlier in your campaign and need the low level attach for late game when you're attacking on all fronts.

With all those guns, they would make good barge busters.

I also.Eric Bergerud stated in his book "FIRE IN THE SKY" they were excellent for this purpose and all those centerline guns in the nose work so well in game against smaller shipping..ORIGINAL: pelthunter

Yep. Mostly anti-ship/barge, but also they have LR when other fighters in the Allied arsenal don't, and will get the bombers through in an escort role.

Don't listen to the others - believe me, you should use them for sightseeing cruises around Port Stanley!

It is amazing, but I constantly see Allied players mis-using their planes.
P47s on sweep, sheesh, come on. Use the high SR planes as trainers. Nothing wrong with P40 or P39s on sweep, lower op losses from being close. Your pilots will love you!
B29s firebombing! What a waste. We all know they dropped far more pamphlets -- but of course WITP doesn't model that side of the game too well, so they should simply be held in reserve and the Allies can threaten using them thru email. Hey, get creative and make your own pamphlet and send that thru email via B29s. Attack the Japanese morale...that is the way to victory!

this is good tips the training is the most important part. Tiger

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life

RE: How to use Beaufighters
This is my second full campaign. Used them for anti shipping and as low level bombers in my first game. This turned out to be wrong in my opinion as they do not carry a decent bomb load and strafing is woefully ineffective in the game. You just do not get enough replacements and the losses are too high. In my second campaign I have trained them as fighters. They have excellent range, four center mount 20 mm guns and excellent durability. I find they are great for sweeping and can be useful for long range cap. I no longer waste them in bombing attacks.
Quite frankly, my experience shows that bomb load is critical and two 250 pound bombs are virtually worthless. You P40s and P39s can carry as much and are cheaper to lose, and the second generation Allied fighters carry up to 4 times as much. It would be nice if there were rockets in the game but there are not.

While many have offered their views, there is no "perfect answer"
Your use of your aircraft will be dependant on so many variables, what you have available, your strategy, your enemies tactics & strategies etc. etc.etc.
The Beau is one of the most versatile aircraft in 1942-1943 and you will have more options for use than aircraft available.
Its what makes the game great!

I use them mainly against ships. If an IJA base solely has something like Nicks flying CAP, and my exp is good, I may take a shot at them.

Just learned that I won't get Internet at the new place before the 18th. Apart from that, the operation advances well, thx.
