Escort Bombers

Post by claystone_MatrixForum »

Hey fellas,

I have a situation where my bombers are bombing a target 17 hexs out. Now i like to have my fighters escort them but their max range is 7. Is there a way to have my fighter at least escort the bombers half way out or so? I've tried to set a target in the sea for the fighters to at least escort half way but it doesn't take.

Does the game prevent half way escorts?

What you are asking is not possible. (As far as I know)

And in real life half way escorting wasn't exactly effective. The intercepting fighters would just fly parallel to the bomber formation until the escorts had to head back home and then commence their attack.

The reason the game does not allow for part leg cover is that air missions are simulated point to point.

There is no inbound or outbound leg ingame. Elements of such a leg are simulated, but in a highly abstracted way. For the game there exists the departure base and the target, everything else is represented by some variables influencing the combat situation over target.

Part of the way escorts was not common in the Pacific where most of the run in was over empty water in most cases.
