Really Basic Resource question...sorry

Really Basic Resource question...sorry
Reading RAC it states in 13.6 that:
You transport a resource to a factory....by railing it from its hex to a usable factory. It must move along railway lines.....
It goes on to say:
This move does not count as a rail move and the resource does not have to start its move at a station.
Question:
What if a resource is not on a rail line or a port e.g. the oil resource southeast of Bandar Shapur in Persia?
Thanks for the clarification.

RE: Really Basic Resource question...sorry
May be a map error, there should be a port there, it seems. My game is at home and I am now at work, but I checked a map I have got, which I believe is from Vassal or similar and there is a minor port. Maybe somebody else can confirm... I include the map.

RE: Really Basic Resource question...sorry
You treat those resources as they were a port and transport them by sea.
RAC: 13.6.1 Resources
....
Some resources are in coastal hexes that are not ports. You can pick these resources up directly from the
coast as if they were at a minor port.
----
No map error. Just the result of the different scale.

Well it looks like I was able to send this resource to a factory last turn. So looks like a bug.

I don't agree with Orm it's not a mistake of the map. I don't think the oil from the well was taken to the port or to the rail by camel in real life, so they should have painted the oil well in the port hex or put a rail to it.
However, they preferred to solve it with the MWIF rule Orm posted, so being able to send it should be WAD.

The rule Orm cited is in tabletop WiF RAW, as well. So you're good to go.

Good to go? But if Orm is correct (which I am confident he is) then I should not have been able to rail that resource to a Soviet factory.

I didn't see in the RAW, searching in the PDF for "PORT" and other terms, whowever I kind of reminded something similar, may be referring to islands with resources (maybe?) and as a clarification, but again, I couldn't find that either.

Nope, you were right, a new search revealed that:

Is the USSR active? Is there a CW or French convoy in the Persian Gulf sea area?
Or alternately, is the oil the USSR shipping in fact the one sitting on the rail line northwest of Bandur Shapur?

The resource seems to go to a factory without using any convoy point at all. [X(]

That is what I said in Post 7. I should not have been allowed to rail that resource. It's a bug.

I do not manage to ship these resources off anyhow - not even the Italian Oil in Lybia if you build up the Synth Factory.
On the other hand the game allows such oil to be "consumed" by the units requiring oil to reorganize during the turn, as long as a path of land hexes and / or sealanes are getting to the Oil Resource hex.

I think you need to put this in as a bug. I don't know how you've managed to do this, because I can't recreate this.

I simply asked the computer to use Tashkent and pressed recompute - and it did.

If you use the Production Planning form's Route layout, the program will show the exact route it uses to get the resource to Tashkent. It might be using a convoy in the Persian Gulf and not displaying that fact in the Convoy column of the form. The convoy count would be for USSR convoys and if it were using a convoy from another major power, the count would be zero/blank.ORIGINAL: warspite1

Cohen is correct. I was about to write the same thing. It also can be saved.
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC

RE: Really Basic Resource question...sorry
Too many folks in this thread are thinking WiF boardgame scale vs. MWiF map scale. Look at the picture.
By the rules, since USSR is not active, that oil can only be used for re-org (unlimited basic supply path). It can't be shipped or saved due to no port and no rail line; and the USSR being neutral - which means only the USSR can ship it off the coast using its own CPs (which of course are not in the Persian Gulf).
If anything else happens, it is a bug.
