I believe the only number that is accurate is the total. FOW controls the other numbers. You cant have FOW controlling them all or you would never know when you had won.

Up until now, I believed the only number that is inaccurate on the main screen is that for sunk enemy ships. I ran a few turns playing both sides and noticed that they seemed to match. Discrepancies between the totals and the individual parts seemed to be explained by the losses from partisan activity.

Obviously, there is some other factor involved. I did lose some VP to partisan activity as I vacated bases in Burma before he captured them so that might contribute.

Allied aircraft

P-38H Lightning x 35
P-47D2 Thunderbolt x 25

The Lightnings were on LRCAP so counted multiple times but still looks like about 350 to 400 planes.

Allies attack at Lashio and I have a few Ki-84r on LRCAP there and they do well against the P-40N26 on sweep and the Hurricane IIc escorting but can't reach the bombers.

Total fighter loss for the day: 49 Ki-84a, 34 Ki-84r, 18 N1K1-J against 19 P-38H, 13 Hurricane IIc, 9 P-40N26, 8 F4U-1A, 5 P-38G. Just better than 1::2. 32 pilots KIA, 22 pilots WIA.

Liberators destroy the remaining oil wells at Tarakan. There is 14000+ fuel here I would like to get out.

Lots of Allied subs miss ASW forces, lots of ASW forces miss subs. SS Devilfish elects not to launch at an xAKL and E Etorufu punishes her with a Type 2 hit and a hit from the 3inch A/S mortar (I thought that was just for show).

Australians get a bloody nose at Taung Gyi:
Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 43199 troops, 707 guns, 504 vehicles, Assault Value = 1154

Defending force 23588 troops, 206 guns, 15 vehicles, Assault Value = 657

Allied adjusted assault: 861

Japanese adjusted defense: 949

Allied assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 3)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), preparation(-), fatigue(-)
experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
512 casualties reported
Squads: 3 destroyed, 48 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 5 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled

Allied ground losses:
1102 casualties reported
Squads: 33 destroyed, 50 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 9 disabled
Engineers: 25 destroyed, 43 disabled
Guns lost 11 (4 destroyed, 7 disabled)

Assaulting units:
I Aus Corps Engineer Battalion
7th Australian Division
8th Australian Division
6th Australian Division
4th Armoured Brigade
2/16th Field Regiment
X' Force
2/11th Field Regiment
2/9th Field Regiment
II Australian
108th Anti Tank Regiment
77th Heavy AA Regiment
2/1st Med Regiment
23rd AA Bde

Defending units:
115th Infantry Regiment
3rd Division
21st Ind.Mixed Brigade
The disablements mostly hit the 115th Infantry Regiment which will withdraw from the defense.

At Pegu the Allies have a movement arrow into the jungle off road to bypass the river defense, should take them about a week.

Samarinda and Balikpapan are both level 9 airfields now.

Lots of aviation support arriving at Tokyo. Will send some to the Philippines.

E No. 1 and E No 20 commissioned.

Another A7M2 factory repaired so, if Allies don't interfere, will have that model sometime in July.

March 4th 1944

SS Haddock is badly damaged by SC Cha-92, 7 hits including 3 direct hits by Type 95 DC. Near Japan and a long way for them to make to the yards.

I correctly guess that he will strike at Taung Gyi today[:)]. Unfortunately, the N1K1-J on LRCAP are completely out fought by Spitfire VIII sweep. 13 N1K1-J lost for no Allied losses[:(].

Some DD bombard Tarakan for light damage. Some Emilies and Nells are lost striking at night (1 Emily and 6 Nell). Don't understand why, but they took bombs rather than torpedoes. On the way out the DD damage RO-60 sending her back for repairs.

Something odd, at night I spot many forces 1 hex SE from Guam. In the morning they are 5 hexes away.

Most of the evacuees arrive at Tarakan making the base over-stacked. 25,000+ in a 20,000 hex.

Large force spotted moving towards Lashio.

Total supplies shows a minus for the day because 7 R&D factories are repaired in one day[:)].

Minamitorishima Naval Guard arrives at Marcus Island, making that base over-stacked as well.

An enemy sub sinks an Akasi class xAK near Miri taking with it 10 damaged Ki-84a being evacuated.

Some minor damage to Allied subs.

The Australians again fail to make progress at Taung Gyi:
Japanese ground losses:
422 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 43 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
2096 casualties reported
Squads: 29 destroyed, 198 disabled
Non Combat: 4 destroyed, 42 disabled
Engineers: 40 destroyed, 24 disabled
Guns lost 26 (6 destroyed, 20 disabled)
Vehicles lost 8 (1 destroyed, 7 disabled)
However, I am going to have to abandon the base because the forces moving on Lashio will be able to get behind it.

Allied forces seen loitering around Guam again. Not sure if I am getting an incomplete picture or he is trying to make me make a mistake of some sort.

Still not doing well at Miri as he sweeps again: 24 Ki-43-IV, 23 N1K1-J, 8 Ki-84r lost for 7 P-38G, 6 F4U-1A, 5 P-38H, 2 F4U-1 a 55::20 ratio. 23 pilots KIA and 21 WIA is a very high pilot loss ratio.

6 Allied forces seen near Guam: 4 air combat, 1 bombardment and 1 amphibious probably.

He might have sent minesweepers one hex away....

or

He might just be dancing in and out with some destroyers to see if anything bites.

March 7th 1944

Allies bombard Guam. About 400 mines, zero hits[:@]. Defensive guns a couple of light hits on DD[:@]. Level 8 airfield, level 8 forts, about 300 planes there and I lose half of them on the ground with hardly anything left that can fly[:@]. The main combat units are undamaged by the bombardments but all other units (including an AT unit) are at 70+ disruption. Also lose/expend about 2000 supply.

Allies night strike at Miri. Dinah and Irving night fighters are hopeless and I lose 108 oil wells and 3 night fighters for no loses amongst the Allies[:(].

PB Hokuyo Maru nearky empties its depth charge racks on a Dutch sub near Georgetown. 13 DC dropped, 8 damaging near misses scored[:)].

DD Fujinami puts 2 direct hits and 3 damaging near misses on SS Tullibee near Formosa, resulting in reported "heavy damage"[:)].

Allies also bomb Taung Gyi, Sorong and Aitape.

March 8th 1944

Allies land at Guam. BB Tennessee hits a mine[:)]. There are still 300+ mines left. During the two night landing phases the embedded BB (Tennessee, Arizona and Oklahoma) do a good job of protecting the transports with only a single hit being scored on an AKA[:(]. During the day, the Allies must be low in ammunition because the defense gets in some good hits[:)]. Unfortunately, it looks like all troops had been off-loaded from those ships. Doubt anything sunk.

I watched the replay of the landing action and the "3rd Special Base Force" fired repeatedly but the DP guns of the "Kure 7th SNLF" never fired. I wonder if the game randomly selects which units are opposing the invasion and assumes the others are elsewhere on the island and never uses them[&:]?

The mandatory bombardment is odd as not all units with guns are in Bombardment mode.
Attacking force 7469 troops, 123 guns, 62 vehicles, Assault Value = 666

Defending force 27137 troops, 654 guns, 651 vehicles, Assault Value = 883

Japanese ground losses:
8 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Vehicles lost 2 (2 destroyed, 0 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
28 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled)

Assaulting units:
53rd Nav Gd /1
2nd Amphibious Brigade
3rd Tank Division
Kure 7th SNLF
38th Div /1
3rd Special Base Force
61st JNAF AF Unit
49th JNAF AF Unit
8th RF Gun Battalion
14th JAAF AF Bn
46th JNAF AF Unit
4th Fleet
43rd JNAF AF Unit
33rd Ind.AA Gun Co
11th Air Defense AA Regiment
19th Army
8th Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion
21st Medium Field Artillery Battalion
41st JNAF AF Unit
40th Field AA Battalion
2nd JAAF AF Bn
101st JAAF AF Bn

Defending units:
6th Infantry Div /10
637th TD Bn /3
33rd Infantry Division
627th TD Bn /3
110th Cmbt Engineer Battalion
632nd TD Bn /3
640th TD Bn /3
98th Field Artillery Battalion
165th FA Bn /3
198th Field Artillery Battalion
200th & 515th Coast AA Regiment
97th Cst AA Rgt /3
145th FA Bn /3
4th Field Artillery Battalion
97th FA Bn /3
Eighth US Army /4
So that looks like 2 divisions, 4 tank destroyer battalions, 4 artillery battalions, a combat engineer unit, a HQ and some AA. It doesn't look like enough to take the base except that I will run out of supplies.

Allies sweep Miri with P-47D2. 16 P-47D2 for 41 N1K1-J and 15 Ki-84r, very bad[:(].

I put some Jakes on naval attack at Guam doesn't work well[:(]. 5 E13A1, 10 N1K1, 6 Ki-43-IV traded for 1 F6F-3.

Allies bomb Miri at night again: 7 Ki-46-III KAI, 5 J1N1-S for 3 Liberators and 20 oil wells lost[:(].

Allied minor attacks in Burma of no consequence.

Allies shut down Sorong airfield.

Only minor damage to enemy subs.

March 9th 1944

Some good results for a change.

An Allied task force is detected in the Bay of Bengal about 1000km from Port Blair. G3M3 strike with torpedoes loaded.
Allied Ships
xAP Kohistan
xAK Samos, Torpedo hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAP Jacalope, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
LSI(L) Glenstrae, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
xAK Clan Macbean, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
446 casualties reported
Squads: 12 destroyed, 10 disabled
Non Combat: 11 destroyed, 15 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 4 (2 destroyed, 2 disabled)
Vehicles lost 11 (4 destroyed, 7 disabled)

Aircraft Attacking:
18 x G3M3 Nell launching torpedoes at 200 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 45cm Type 91 Torp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Trincomalee at 37,47

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 8 NM, estimated altitude 5,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 2 minutes

Japanese aircraft
G3M3 Nell x 18

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M3 Nell: 15 damaged

Allied Ships
LST 73, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
xAP Clan Macpherson
xAP Rizwani, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
AM Rajputana, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
xAK Clan Macwhirter, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
710 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 35 destroyed, 14 disabled
Engineers: 3 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 7 (2 destroyed, 5 disabled)
Vehicles lost 5 (4 destroyed, 1 disabled)
Additional sinking sounds suggest more than one of the damaged ships sunk; with luck taking more troops to Davy Jones' locker. Task force is still reported as 10+ ships, all listed as AM.

Near Lashio the Allies bomb my troops but Ki-87r on LRCAP manage to down some bombers. Then the Allied attack collapses:
Ground combat at 61,46 (near Lashio)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 31151 troops, 448 guns, 282 vehicles, Assault Value = 915

Defending force 18493 troops, 161 guns, 60 vehicles, Assault Value = 638

Allied adjusted assault: 446

Japanese adjusted defense: 1084

Allied assault odds: 1 to 2

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), disruption(-), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
595 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 60 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Allied ground losses:
2957 casualties reported
Squads: 159 destroyed, 69 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 83 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 66 disabled
Guns lost 36 (11 destroyed, 25 disabled)
Vehicles lost 8 (1 destroyed, 7 disabled)

Assaulting units:
BFF Brigade
11th Australian Division
II Aus Corps Engineer Battalion
9th Australian Division
1st Medium Regiment
2/3 AIF Pioneer Battalion
2/2 AIF Pioneer Battalion
2nd Medium Regiment
I Australian Corps
2/1 AIF Pioneer Battalion
109th Anti Tank Regiment
2nd RAA Jungle Regiment

Defending units:
37th Division
7th RTA Division
5th Medium Field Artillery Regiment
I didn't look closely but I am guessing the BFF Brigade took it on the chin as I can't see why else would have got so many destroyed squads. My 37th Division is showing bad disruption but the Thai forces are still okay.

Allies also hit Miri, Liberators at night and lots of fighters in the day, 14 oil wells lost.

Overall for the day lose 69 fighters, 5 G3M3 and 7 other planes. Down 8 Liberators, 27 fighters at Miri and 19 fighters 8 bombers at Lashio plus 2 more ops loses elsewhere.

Allies reported as having sent 15 units, 120,000 troops 1,600 guns and a 1,000 AFV across the river near Pegu. This is into a hex with an SL of 55,000 - will they be able to feed them all?

Liberators night bomb Miri. 12 oil wells lost. 3 J1N1-S, 1 Ki-46-III KAI, 1 Ki-84r traded for 3 Liberators.

I-181 is damaged near Truk.

The convoy attacked in the Bay of Bengal runs for Madras and air cover so is not attacked.

Allies bombard Guam, minor damage only.

Looks like a bombardment force heading for Balikpapan from Biak.

March 11th 1944

A day for firing blanks.

Allied bombardment (?) force moving closer to Babeldoab. In the morning 20 B7A2 strike (as dive bombers, Navb skill 70+) attack the Fletchers and in the afternoon 12, no CAP, zero hits scored[:@], 6 planes lost. I need kamikazes!

Fletchers bombard Rota, the camouflage works a treat and they do zero damage[;)].

Allies attack at Guam. It does not go well, for them[:)]:
Attacking force 27877 troops, 522 guns, 694 vehicles, Assault Value = 930

Defending force 30825 troops, 414 guns, 572 vehicles, Assault Value = 688

Allied adjusted assault: 195

Japanese adjusted defense: 3377

Allied assault odds: 1 to 17 (fort level 8)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), leaders(+), disruption(-)
experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
410 casualties reported
Squads: 5 destroyed, 9 disabled
Non Combat: 9 destroyed, 8 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 2 disabled
Vehicles lost 17 (3 destroyed, 14 disabled)
Units destroyed 1

Allied ground losses:
2712 casualties reported
Squads: 32 destroyed, 201 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 63 disabled
Engineers: 10 destroyed, 41 disabled
Guns lost 70 (3 destroyed, 67 disabled)
Vehicles lost 87 (9 destroyed, 78 disabled)
Looks like one of his infantry divisions took most of the damage. My destroyed unit was a tiny fragment of a Nav Gd unit lifted from Ponape. Not quite the result I hoped for but nearly 10% of his troops killed and no damage to the forts[8D]. Looks like I may have lost about 1000 supply in the defense so I'm likely to run out of supply in about a couple of months. Apart from two naval bombardments he made very little attempt to disrupt my troops. VP tally shows me picking up 25 VP points, that is 75 devices, so he may have taken more losses than is reported.

No night strike at Miri. P-38J, F6F-3, Spitfire VIII sweep Miri and Brunei. 63 planes lost for 40 downed. A group of 9 PB4Y-1 also turn up and one of them is downed and one oil well knocked out. About 100 fuel transfer from Tarakan to Brunei.

Last of the air mobile defenders from Samarinda are lifted from Melak. The remainder have a long walk through mountains and jungle to Miri and I am not expecting many to make it. They need to make another 130 km before they can even start to draw supply from Miri[8|].

Allied convoy seems to be off-loading at Madras. Recon reports only 5 fighters there so I may risk a strike.

March 12th 1944

Lose a Manzyu TM Class TK off Miri to SS Sargo. Fortunately, she is inbound to Miri so no oil/fuel lost and I have a surfeit of tankers. Still it is 19 VP down the drain.

A near miss on SS Pickerel off CRB starts a fire on the bridge. That must be nasty when you are under attack and can't surface.

5 DD hang around near Peleliu and are attacked by 12 B7A2, 5 planes lost, no hits scored[:@]. If he keeps leaving targets I will try again with D4Y4 and see if they can do better. Tanaka moved to intercept a raid, which never happened, and is spotted. Will move to safety to avoid the carriers from Guam.

Allied BB bombard Tinian, little effect, and Guam, light damage to troops and some supply lost.

Allies land at Rabaul, not too sure why he is bothering. The defenders have been without supply for a while so are in a poor state. If he destroys them it will free me up to rebuy/rebuild units.

Allied bombardment attacks and bombing runs against troops in Burma.

Corsairs and Lightnings sweep Miri. The day defense is too weak and they suffer. 38 planes lost for just 10 downed[:(].

I haven't been building enough fighters to handle losses.

2 weeks ago I had 317 N1K1-J in the pools, now I have 145. Two weeks ago I had 135 Ki-84r in the pool, now I am just using them as they come of the production lines. Have a lot of A6M5c and some Ki-43-IV available but I don't like using them at Miri where he can fly Thunderbolts and Corsairs. Some newly arriving groups have been given Ki-43-Ic and Ki-27b for training purposes.

Current production (monthly): 185 Ki-84r, 121 Ki-43-IV, 157 N1K1-J, 110 A6M5c, 75 N1K2-J, 30 J2M2. Sometime in June or July I expect to get a boost to production as the Ki-83 starts being produced at 210 per month.

Liberators hit Miri at night.
2 A6M5d-S, 1 J1N1-S, 7 Ki-46-III KAI for 4 PB4Y-1 and no damage to oil is okay.

Thunderbolts sweep Brunei.
Hellcats sweep Tinian.

43 N1K1-J, 28 Ki-43-IV, 7 Ki-84r for 8 P-47D2, 7 F6F-3 - I can't afford these losses.

Emilies and Nells kill themselves at night against DD at Babeldoab (7 Nell, 3 Emily lost). DD bombard Babeldoab, no damage to base, light damage and no planes destroyed, but morale takes a hit.

RO-66 takes 36/71/3 damage near Truk.

The Ki83 will definitely help, and boy are you producing a lot of them! Frank R production, looks low, but then again in June perhaps that won't be low with all those 83s coming online. My rough rule of thumb, from Pax Mondo, was about 100 twin engine fighters per month for the end game...scenario 1.

March 14th 1944

RO-66 is lost.

Allies sweep Miri, Brunei and Saipan. At Brunei all planes have been grounded.
44 N1K1-J, 15 J2M2, 10 Ki-84r for 16 F4U-1A, 14 F4U-1, 11 F6F-3, 2 P-47D25 69::43 is okay.

Allies bomb Lashio.

Allied BB bombard Guam.

SS Sawfish locates the KB lurking to the East of the Philippines (I was planning to strike at an attack into Northern DEI, etc.). Will now have to relocate to get away from sub threat. 3 separate DD attack the sub but only manage two minor hits.

An Amphibious force spotted at Truk, may be loading the marine divisions?

Looks like some oil may be flowing from Singapore to Port Arthur. At least the oil from Bengkalis seems to be making it there and had a small drop in oil at Singapore.

I decide to expand N1K1-J and Ki-84r production by 30 each and N1K2-J by 10. That is 77,000 supply, or about 2 to 3 days worth. I hoped not to need this, if I had done this 3 months ago would have an extra 200 planes in pools. It is tricky to predict demand but it is worth it to expand as soon as possible. I can cover engine production by reducing Ki-67-Ia production until the N1K5-J or Ki-83 reduce the demand for the Nakajima Ha-45.

That was my plan, once the Ki-83 comes online I should be able to reduce the need for Ki-84r.

I have been surprised by the amount of planes I have been losing. It is getting to the stage where I wonder if it is worth protecting Miri and Brunei, but if I stop here I am sure he will find somewhere else to attack.

I am sure his Hellcat and Thunderbolt pools are huge. Not so sure about Corsairs and Lightnings.

I have lost 1148 planes over the last 20 days.

The Allies have lost 548 over the same time (so taking into account 4E losses just about staying at the 2::1 loss VP ratio).

In the same time I will have built about 1100 planes. However, a lot of them are bombers that are being stockpiled.

It is depressing sometimes, how good the P47 is, but hold on soon you will be putting a hurt on him.[:)] In our Downfall game the Shinden has done really well versus high altitude P47 sweeps. I expect the Ki83 will do just as well or even better since their ceiling is higher than the Shinden.

Good news on oil flowing from Singers to Port Arthur. Are you shipping any out of Port Arthur to the HI?

Soon, 4 months away, I'll be lucky to have anywhere to defend[:D]. I expect the Shinden's speed is a real help. The Ki-83 at least has better maneuver.

Been shipping from Fusan throughout. Dropping at Hong Kong. However, Port Arthur now can't even get the oil to keep its refineries running all the time.[X(]
