Impulse Buy

Post by Anthropoid »

Not often I make an impulse buy, particularly when it is $79!

But I'm guessing this is the spiritual successor of Harpoon (a game I was never able to get into for various reasons) and just couldn't help myself.

Download almost completed.

What should I do first to ingratiate myself with this interesting game?

You won't be disappointed, if you invest some time in this fine game.

I came to this game late also, as I was still enjoying harpoon, but very glad I made the leap.

Divorce your spouse, send the kids to live with family, sell your pets, and quit your job. This will be all you'll need to sustain your life for the next several years...[:D]

First, check out Baloogan's videos. They're from much older versions of Command, but are still helpful and fun.
Second, when you start playing, play the tutorials (they're well-designed), and then some small scenarios to see if you got the feel of it (The official Battle of Chumonchin Chan is a good example, as is (full disclosure, I made it) the community Chilean Chevuchaue). I personally got the controls pretty quickly with my only similar experience being a bit of Fleet Command.
Third, don't hesitate to just try stuff out in the editor.

Nonsense! This game has greatly improved the quality of my family life. Because I spend endless hours on this game, I am in my office and not bothering my wife while she is watching her television shows with stupid questions like, "Okay, the two brothers hunt monsters, and pretend to be FBI agents, and no one notices this?" :)

The screen resolutions seem a bit wonky. I generally keep my desktop at 1920 x 1080, but the game doesn't really seem to like that size. Seems like some of the windows don't really fit or something. I also tried it at 1280 x 1024 and that didn't seem quite right either.

What do you guys run it at?

Be thankful native multiplayer isn't included. If it was you'd be screwed big time. There is a user created multiplayer mod out there, but I haven't tried yet.

I found a good way to get started is to check out Sunburn's new players post.

The tutorials are fun and Baloogan's play throughs are legendary.

It has a bit more to it than Harpoon, but the community around the game are friendly and helpful. The devs are approachable and are very active here.

Welcome to the game. Enjoy!

Be nice.
