Yeah - Off Topic, but I wanted to post it anyway because music is powerful;

We all play War in the Pacific, what did they listen to?
Harry James first recorded this in 1939 Ciribiribin (a Marine going to Guadalcanal said they listened to that record all the way across the Pacific)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aLujqgveh4

Harry James recorded this hit in 1945 - so appropriate to the times:

No message - just enjoy...

I have several sound mods in my game because I wanted to "capture the times", but one which I left out was "Any Bonds Today"..Surely the most played song in America during the war. I just thought it would be far too monotonous to hear it every hour, (as in real life)..

TOMLABEL, One of the guys I love most - I'm back in you're neck of the woods - so to speak... Middle North Carolina (near Charlotte).
After taking advantage of my time to visit Guilford Courthouse National Battlefield Park (my 7th American Rev War Battlefield Visit), I thought of seeing the BB North Carolina later.

But all that aside - speaking back to my topic of music - This applies to both of us and I'm sure you'll appreciate -

May I recommend that anyone who likes music of this vintage go to CKUA.com and catch 2 Sunday shows: 9 AM and 1PM Sunday MST. This station is one of oldest in Canada and reputedly has one of the finest vinyl libraries in world. The playlists are on web-site. The DJ for latter show is in 70s and is a walking encyclopedia....he has been on this station for 50+ years.

Hey man!! Love ya too bro!!![8D] Glad to see you have escaped again from behind the Orange Curtain!!

How in the world did you find that one? I don't think I've heard that since I was an early teenager. Brings back good memories though, and yes, how things have changed for sure! Sometimes I get lucky enough to go back and visit places where the only things that have really changed are the ages of the loved ones. Albeit, those are rare and are fading away. Sad.[:(]

You near Gastonia...Greenville? If very close to Charlotte, the uptown Charlotte area is a cool place to eat and relax if in the social mood. Charlotte is probably 6 hrs from where I am. ATL is halfway from here to there.

I vote that if you are going to be in the area awhile you make the trip to Wilmington to see BB55!![;)] You won't regret making the trip to see the last early "fast" battleships built! The only Washington class in existence!! It is a very nice museum and has been maintained as well as could be throughout the years. Better than what the state of Alabama has been able to do for BB60. I hope that I can get back there soon for a visit myself!!

PP,

Great info and much appreciated!! Many of the sites that I have listened to in the past have completely stopped playing music of this time period altogether.[:@] It's nice to know and to learn of places that still do!!

On Directv..they carry a "radio station" from different era's..one being the forties..Since I have a home theatre system hooked up, I can turn the tube off and just listen..

NOTE:If your TV can pick up Pandora..you can pretty much create your own "radio station"...

Thanks Skyros,
Actually I have been to Kings Mountain and Cowpens several times (I occasionally work in Kings Mountain...working trips I should say) :)
Guilford Courthouse was my first time there though.

I often listen to Pandora on a "Glenn Miller" station or something similar.  While they do not have a "'40"s" station, all the great bands and musicians of the time period are available.

Zero cost to listen and easy to set up (iPhone w/ Pandora app).

Yes..I built my "40's" station by adding Glen Miller,Benny Goodman,Andrews Sisters,Tommy Dorsey,etc...The Pandora computer then finds selections which IT feels are similar and adds them automatically..When a tune comes on that I know is not of the correct era...I give it a thumbs down and the 'puter eliminates it from the playlist..

Trivia....Frank Sinatra first joined the Tommy Dorsey Band at Lyric Theater in Indianapolis.

Hi Trugrit,
If you're 20 minutes north of Gastonia - you must be near Lincolnton I'm guessing?
Personally, I love the Tar Heel State, it's always some how like coming home here (which is why I posted Joe South's song above).
I am very familiar with Gastonia, and locals there'abouts now... I have made good friends here - and some supply me with some good ole' 'shine made from 100+ year old stills from the Mt.Airey area if you know what I mean (I know you must).
Love you're part of the country [:D]

Big B,

Yep, good guess

I live just south of the Lincoln county line.
I’m Scots-Irish and my farmer ancestors have been in NC since before the revolutionary war.
We have always believed that what a farmer did with his corn crop was his own business.

Times have changed. Now, the best moonshiner in United States is a woman named Troy Ball.

Trivia: The town of Lincolnton, the site of the battle of Ramsour’s mill, was named after Benjamin Lincoln a revolutionary war general who was considered a hero in this part of the country before Abraham Lincoln was born.

In other OT news:

…..Trivia....Frank Sinatra first joined the Tommy Dorsey Band at Lyric Theater in Indianapolis….

Mark Steyn is doing a century series of Frank Sinatra articles that you might be interested in:

I took TOMLABEL's advice and made the trip to the Battleship North Carolina while I had time.
I have visited the Iowa a couple times - and it was great, but the North Carolina was better from a WWII enthusiast's POV because she is decked out as she was in WW2 - not modernized like the Iowa's.
It was worth the drive - you can go inside the turrets, magazines, CIC, engine rooms, etc - very educational!
