Except I can't post there; because the forum is on old.wargamer.com, and refuses to recognize the unified login system; spitting out this message to me:

ADODB.Parameter error '800a0d5d'

Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation.

I've asked the team to look in to the login issue. Which page exactly (url) gives you that error?

So I load up

http://www.wargamer.com/

I click on the FORUM link next to ARTICLES/CATEGORIES/ in your title bar.

It takes me to

http://old.wargamer.com/forums/

I click on LOGIN.

Takes me to

http://old.wargamer.com/members/

I go to the forum box:

"Already Registered?
Simply log in to Wargamer. Once logged in you can setup your profile page or continue to other parts of the site."

and enter my unified matrix login.'

Boom.

Clicking on DOWNLOAD brings up:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

The include file '/includes/db.asp' was not found.

Hello RyanCrierie,

The link you have provided is working for me. Can you try in a different browser and see if the issue persists?

Hello RyanCrierie,

The link you have provided is working for me. Can you try in a different browser and see if the issue persists?

I tried it with edge, and the download link gave me:
HTTP 500 error

That's odd... Microsoft Edge can’t find this page

This page can’t be displayed, because this site’s server might be under maintenance or there could be a programming error.

Firefox:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

/file.asp, line 1

The include file '/includes/db.asp' was not found.

All of them show http://old.wargamer.com/file.asp?id=0 when I hover the mouse over the download area.

To clarify, are the people who are saying it works for them talking about the page itself (which does seem to be fine), or the download link on the page ("Click to Download"). The download link fails for me too.

Cheers

So whatever happened to all the data?

Someone got a partial (1,449 files saved out of 4,833 files) dump here:

https://archive.org/details/WargamerGam ... 160514.tar
This is my attempt (as of 2016-05-14) to archive the 4833 computer wargame scenarios hosted at the Wargamer's Games Depot and at high risk of being lost. I was able to archive all of the metadata but only 1449 of the scenario files--the rest seem to be already missing.

The 1449 scenarios in this pack cover 71 different computer wargames. These are the most common:
Steel Panthers: World at War (528 scenarios)
Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank (127 scenarios)
The Operational Art of War: Century of Warfare (109 scenarios)
Age of Rifles (84 scenarios

the latest owners of "the wargamer" have pretty much abandoned any pretense that they actually care about wargaming, and now that we're about 4 content migrations into site rebuilds, they've pretty much sh!t-canned any of their pre-2010 archives.

anything you wanted from the Wargamer.com glory days is gone, and at best you might find some partial data archived at The Wayback Machine

Hello,

I'm not sure if I may point you to a different website here. But there is a side which has a lot of the existing steel panthers and TOAW:

I've had time to actually go through the metadata and match it with valid ZIP files:

https://archive.org/details/WargamerGam ... 160514.tar

SP1: 577 items, 2 saved (below 1%) -- NOTE this has some SP2 stuff, due to poor organization
SP2: 317 items, 1 saved (below 1%)
SP3: 11 items, 11 saved (100%)
SPWAW: 626 items, 536 saved (85%)
SPWW2: 106 items, 0 saved (0%)
SPMBT: 199 items, 130 saved (65%)

I managed to rip a lot of stuff from old internet archive copies of the Wargamer's Scenario Depot today using a site downloader:

LINK to main page

LINK showing everything inside it

I managed to recover:

SPWAW: 496
SPWW2: 61
SPMBT: 124
SP2: 1

The reason for the distribution is I think rather simple:

Internet Archive (and others) chose what to save based on popularity -- the more people downloaded something, the more likely it was to be saved.

In the early 2000s; running DOS was becoming harder and harder -- DOSBOX wouldn't come out until January 2002; so SPWAW was more popular at the time; since it was a native Win9x app.

So all the SP1 and SP2 scenarios were not archived because at the time, nobody was playing them.

Dear God, I'm not sure if you are still doing this, but you are doing literal Divine Work. Thank you so much for that. And please keep up the good work.

(Sorry for the thread res, but I figure it is worth it.)
