V1.08.03Beta is available for testing

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Hi Ice,

I assume you've registered the game? Do you see any other WITW beta updates there?

Just follow the link from first post and you'll see it. There seems to be a separate Login for members club so you won't see it without logging-in there first.

Waiting for change log.

It's so short compared with the usual length of change logs in the 1.08 family that it's easily missed [:)] But these are very important fixes, so the importance of this patch is significant.

Has anyone had stability issues with this latest patch? It seems to stall on the save before I start my turn. I never had this issue before, it does not do it all the time. It seems to do it when I am doing something else, due to the time the turn can take i watch a video or do something else with my computer while it is playing its turn and have had minimal issues. This issues was not there before the latest Beta latest Beta. I am reinstalling to see (but keeping my saves as I am in Feb 44) if this solves it.

If you switch to other windows when the turn is processed, the game will appear to be frozen when you return. You have to be patient and it will repaint the window after a while and become responsive again after the AI turn/logistics phase will end. Do not accept Windows' offer to close a not responding application. This is caused by the architecture of the game, processing both the turn and interaction with the user on a single thread. It was always so, not related to beta (except that turns can take longer due to more complicated calculations in some parts).

Maybe you mean a permanent stall, when it does something in a loop that never ends. If this is the issue (not a shorter freeze that goes away when the game moves to next step), then it would be best if you would send me the save so I could find out where does this lock occurs. I have fixed some of these in the past (one occured when Finland surrendered for example).

jamesm, thanks for the report and the save. I hope the bug found and fixed was the one giving you trouble.

For now a warning to other people: the game may crash when you set up Soviet air so that partisans will be supplied from non-VVS airbases. VVS are ok, but if the other types of bases are used, the game may crash. So make sure you apply a workaround for this bug until 1.08.04 will be released.

edit: It seems the crash may happen even if no air groups are eligible to participate from those (G)DBAD and (G)AD DD airbases, but they are there.
