What does an asterisk after a unit mean? E.G. Inf * 34th Infantry Rgt

If it's the mark I think you mean it shows that the unit can combine with others to form a larger LCU. Most often the components of a division that comes in pieces.

But once combined and then you later decide to "divide" the larger unit, it does NOT break back down into it's original constituents. The unit will divide into sub units A, B and C.
