Annoying lack of news.

Post by ASHBERY76 »

It would be nice to have an idea what the plans are going forward. It's not how modern publishers work in the modern age.Paradox,Stardock and even Creative assembly give regular community news.

no info is better than dayly blabla.
it is annoying to get all this hot air crap i.e. from star citizen.
this american style of hyping shit annoys me.

i would bet that if there is really something good coming out, they will let us know.
better informed too late than too early.

There is no need for hype, too often that approach is counter productive. What would be great is just the odd small update with select material where there is no credible risk of regret. That said, I'm not sure there is much to update us with as this point. But when there is, it would be good to know, so that we can discuss as a community, it will help this place be more active and interesting while we wait. And of course some of those community ideas maybe useful for development planning just as we've seen in other 4X communities.

I can assure you all that when we get very quiet, it generally means we are very busy but not yet at the point where we have anything to show. Elliot and I have been working on the following:

1. Another Universe update
2. The final Shadows update
3. ... ?

How much effort can it require to work on three dots and a question mark? Hopefully there will be time after-wards to work on something secret and eye-opening.

Well, I've personally spent quite a lot of time just working on a question mark. I can't imagine how much time it would take to work on even one dot and a question mark, let alone three dots!

There seem to be a lot of new space 4x games around at the moment, some in early access, some near release, some already released. I'm thinking of games such as Predestination, Star Ruler 2 and StarDrive 2, to name but three. I've tried a few of these and I was struck by how there is still nothing that does space 4x as well as Distant Worlds Universe. That's not to say these other games are not good, or that there aren't some things they do better than DW:U (there definitely are some things they do better). But it does indicate to me that:
(1) There's a lot of interest in this type of game right now
(2) A new game built on DW:U (and what's been learnt from DW:U and the other games) could blow everything else out of the water.

Long time no see. How is everybody?

I have not bought Universe yet. Been busy with other games and mods for those games. Ex. Caveman2Cosmos Mod for Civ IV\BtS.

I still start an occasional DW Return of the Shakira but I just don't seem to finish any of them.

So I'm not sure I "want" DW: Universe.

So I'll ask these simple questions here in Ashberry's thread since I've known him since MoOIII. Is Universe easier to play than RoS or Legends? Or is it more complicated?

I'll be looking for any replies and Thanks for anyone who does.

Have a great day. [:)]

It's more complex and complex is good complicated is bad.

It's more or less the same as the last expansion apart from added ground combat units and better game performance. The expansion's main focus was modding.

Plus much better performance, better AI and automation, etc. The product page has a pretty good summary but I think it's well worth the step up (of course).

Thanks for the reply Erik.

You wouldn't happen to be from the Springfield area would you? Spent part of the fall in Springfield back in '89. Lovely place, reminded me of my Ironton Missouri birth place.
