AAR - Battle Ocean '64, North Sea ASW

Post by cf_dallas »

Minor Defeat, -100 points.

OK, for starters, the possible problem: Event 'Neutral unit destroyed' fired 15 times, and not a single neutral unit was lost (check losses/expenditures below). That's 375 points that got knocked of the score, and turned an unventful and moderately successful bloodying of the Sovs nose, into what looks like a horribly managed mess.

Other than that... nice scenario. ASW isn't generally my bag, and as usual I failed to actually find any submarines. I did successfully destroy the few false contacts I found, and I had one more Goblin that I wasn't able to localize while I had anything nearby with weapons, and it got away.

I really enjoyed the air/surface action in this one. Maybe it's the contrast with the size of the North Sea area vs. the Baltic in the last scenario, but you really had to manage the Javelin's to keep any kind of meaningful aerial patrols. I actually ended up rearming 6 of them with an Internal Guns LR loadout, to give them longer legs. I used the Hunters to knock out the Soviet DDG, and sank the AGI with surface gunfire. In fact, my most active unit was the HMS Hampshire, in addition to sinking the AGI, he tagged a few bombers with Sea Slugs.

Oh, and I got a bit lucky with the two AS-2s that got launched my way. One of them fell victim to a Sea Slug, but the other one got through... and malfunctioned. :-)

I'm looking forward to playing the third chapter... nice work Mark.

Okay, let me take a look at it.

Please try out this version and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks.

I'll try to get to it later. It didn't bother me, I usually don't pay much attention to the scoring if I know I'm meeting mission objectives. But I figured you'd want to know.

No anomaly spotted and no neutral loss events. However, got "scenario concluded" after sinking one sub (plus shooting some aircraft). Carried on patrols and found one more sub. You may want to revise end-scenario criteria, for either two subs sunk, or maybe higher score or whatever.

Score 900 Triumph,

Lost one ship to ASM. Used LR guns loadout on fighter aircraft, with missiles their endurance is not good enough.

Okay, I've tweaked the Events so you shouldn't get the premature scenario conclusion again. Here is the revised version...
