Weather No-Bomb Icons!

Post by Mr.Frag »

I love it!

A really nice touch that clues us in to why our silly commanders didn't get off their duff and do what they were told.

Thanks Guys

I find it annoying, but I guess it's just me. :) I always assume if planes don't fly it's due to weather.

Nice to not assume that it's weather or some OTHER factor like moral/fatigue/escort level and KNOW that it WAS FOR SURE weather :D

Rules out all those other reasons that could cause the attack to not happen ;)

If you don't like the weather icons, just use the 4 hotkey and turn them off. I'm curious, were you aware of the hotkey toggle for this?

Yes Sir, I did notice that. I just don'nt like having to hit 4 each time I load a turn or a combat replay.

Actually its no worse than having to hit F2 to get the shallow hexes. I do it without thinking anymore.

Are these going to appear on TF that haven't been spotted yet? It will be a dead give away that something is there (and not a sub) if the icon is seen without a ship marker.

Didn't see them showing up over enemy ships in any of my games ... FoW setting off might make them show.

I did notice that the MSW's are still telling the whole world of their activities instead of JUST the owning player :D

In WW I and WW II

The Japanese and USN set up video cameras to detect any mine sweeping activities. Also was good at reporting hit ships by type and name. But due to poor trianglation, it failed to report ships' speed or direction. When the signal failed the owner of the minefield knew it was time to lay some more. WW II minefields were very cheap to set up, it cost only $1 a day to keep the video link open.

When i press F2 or '4' in the Preference Screen or Any Database Screen, i get a messy display but i still can go back to the game map. Not very important.

What the use of '1', '2' and '3' keys ? Don't find it in the manual but get a sound when i press them.

I did see them showing up on one of my TF's that was out to sea, which don't know if the AI would of been able to see it or not ?

which I thought at first that it was telling me that scout planes from that TF couldn't take off ?, but that got me thinking, as there shouldn't of been any thing that could carry a scout plane in the air, so end of turn went in looking and it was a bunch of LCI's

so guess it was telling me that the TF was in a cloud bank and couldn't be attacked

they are a little goofy looking :) but they get the job done

I KNEW I had seen that no-fly icon before!! :D So I did a search on CNN...et voila! Sorry about the GIF conversion..messed up the colors a bit.

Personally, I am flattered that Rob Reiner would take an interest in our passion.

Reminds me of my college days but SBD meant something different then.

When I first heard of an overhaul of the weather system in UV I was excited.
I had visions of a dynamic weather map, similar to the one in Carriers at War many years ago.
Saw myself riding a weather front, sneaking up on my objective, like Sherman in his raid on Rabaul.
What we have now is good feedback to the player on why his bombers aren't flying but things could be a lot better.

To be brutally honest, the wetaher system in UV blows chunks.
You'd think the South Pacific was one big thunderstorm intersperced with rain, more rain, the odd cloudy day and the unique sunny one.

I'd love to see a dynamic weather system in UV, with Tropical cyclones sinking destroyers and wreaking havoc on Transport TF's.
Swirling patterns of clouds following seasonal meteorological patterns.
I'd love to have a go at programming one.

Hi Mike
I think after all the complants about the Clouds in BTR they gave up on that idea

but yea, with this system, you can't try to use it to your advantage, but then that would not be with in our range of command options

LOL

Adm, got a radio message from PH for you sir

thank you son, hello? , hi Jim , how it going buddy, just wanted to let you know, I see that there going to be a nice cloud front, running right on up to Rebaul, so I was thinking, why don't you and your boys, sail on up under that front and pick off some of the shipping heading into Rebaul, they'll never see you

.........ahh........did you say something sir ?, can't hear a word over this dang thing, must be the weather sir, dang clouds are blocking out the radio or something, oh well, was nice talking with you sir, give my regards to the wife, we can try talking on the phone the next time I get to port, sir

but Adm, I could hear everything he said sir ?

son, you planning on ever getting out of the brig

sir ?, I... oh..., never mind, radio never was worth a dang when it was raining

atta boy son, you ever think of taking the officer tests ?

I'm afraid the no-bomb icinbs have no meaning for search aircraft. I just had a barge (covered by a no-bomb icon) ,spotted by a B-17 no less, which attacked and hit the barge! I didn't loose much (70 supply pts) but it could have been a transport or combat ship.

Hi Drex
yes, I have had ships spotted and attacked/hit by recon planes also (my recon at least :))

maybe it means the weather is too bad for a raid to fly into/though
