Game Freezing

Post by dhucul2011 »

See the attached game.

Move Rommel to La Rochelle.

Move the 9-4 INF to the hex East of Brest and then move Guderian to the same.

My game always freezes here.

Sometimes it happens as soon as I move Rommel, sometimes it happens after I move Guderian or another HQ.

Help?

Yes I got the same when I tried it - after moving the 9-4.

I have got the game to work at least once by simply changing the order of the movement. You could try that and see how far it is until the next crash.

But I also got the crash as you described.

Nah, nevermind. It just crashes shortly later.

So I skipped all German movement and the game progresses. Get to the end of turn and come to Peace and another freeze!!!!!

Attached is the game at reform corps. Go from there, Finland surrenders, relocate the German corps and it then freezes in Peace step.

Can Paul or SOMEBODY let me know whether these issues are now on some sort of "to do" list and I'm not just throwing away more time by starting a new game?

I have posted this thread to the development forum as demonstrating a possible infinite loop supply bug. Either that or the game file is damaged somehow.

I have no way to predict when Steve may take some time to look at this problem, so I'd advise starting again. You can always come back to this game if there's a fix.

An idea for if it is possibly a damaged save file: go back to the earliest auto-save you can find prior to the impulse you are in and try to replicate what was done.

Thanks Paul.

Any wisdom on the Peace Step problem?

I didn't load that save. I had assumed it was a carry forward of the original problem. Is it possible with this game that you had a MadExcept in a prior session but were able to continue? We've been advised that sometimes that can leave an artifact in the save file that later screws up the game and it's always advisable to restart after any MadExcept, ideally with the most recent save or auto-save from just before it happened.

I am not sure why this sequence fails. I was able to continue play by simply making the Rommel move the last of the 3 you listed. But I the program also went into an infinite loop when undoing those moves (in various sequence combinations). I've added this to my list of things to figure out, but it isn't high priority since the problem can be avoided by changing the sequence of the moves.

I'll look at the problem you encountered in the Peace phase next.

The problem with the Relocation routine had to do with placing the conquered Finnish units in the Relocate Stack. But then they were moved to the Conquered Pool and not available for the player to relocate on the map.

I fixed that. Here is your saved game with the Conquest phase completed. The code in version 1.3.3.6 (and later) will not have the Relocation problem.

Sorry about this.[:(]

EDIT: Rats.[:@] The version number for the saved game I uploaded is 1.3.3.6, which you won't be able to use running version 1.3.3.0.[:@] You could edit the GAM file, changing the version number. That is dangerous but can work if done carefully. Perhaps one of the beta testers can take care of that for you. [I'm now in the middle of debugging a couple of other bugs recently posted to Tech Support.]
